Get ready for summer boating and fishing! If you have any unwanted fishing and boating gear, then the Clean Marine Disposal Event is for you! On April 24-26, nine boat landings and marinas in Charleston County will have stations set up to accept old fishing and boating gear in an effort to dispose of these items before they become marine debris. Bees Ferry will also be accepting boats and trailers for disposal at their location on Friday and a Saturday. Each station will have a dumpster for non-recyclables and bins for those items that can be recycled (trailer tires, crab traps, monofilament, etc.)! Volunteers will be on site to assist with items brought for disposal and you will also receive a free floating key chain!
Marine debris is a serious problem across South Carolina?s coast. Lost fishing gear, such as crab pots and monofilament line, can seriously harm ? and even kill ? the birds, turtles, fish and dolphins that make the Lowcountry so special. For example, crab traps can trap and drown turtles; monofilament line entangles and injures birds, dolphins, turtles and other animals.
