January and February are traditionally tough months to fish for our area. Unless you have an incredibly flexible work schedule or a lucky rabbit’s foot that works, finding days where the wind is not blowing or temperatures are bearable can be next to impossible. Fighting off the cabin fever for those of us who live to be outdoors is a continuous battle. Here are a few things you can do to keep your sanity.
Attend a Boat Show: The Charleston Boat Show is this weekend. A big part of fishing is commraderie. Getting together with a group of your fishing buddies and heading to the show will at least give you a chance to talk fishing look at some new products and who knows you may end up with a new boat to take all of your friends.
Go to a seminar: The number of fishing seminars offered in the area has grown tremendously. The local tackle shops have really increased the number of seminars offered and the range of different topics has become quite broad. You will find seminars on offshore fishing, inshore fishing, boat maintenance, fly fishing and the list goes on. Most of these seminars are free and are offered during the evening after work hours or during the weekend. Seminars give you a chance to hear techniques from some of the areas most experienced anglers and also give you an opportunity to ask questions.
Watch a good fishing show: The number of fishing shows offered on television these days is really staggering. hile some of them are not that great, there are some that are really entertaining and you can also pick up some tips that may help you when the weather improves.
Tune your tackle and your boat: There is no better time to get your tackle in order. The most successful anglers are also normally the most prepared. Getting your reels cleaned and in good working order. Making sure you have the lures you need and making sure they are all rigged and in good working order is a must. There will be some of those, “surprise” nice days that just sneak up on us and the last thing you want is an op
