gone for good?

Nice!! I went yesterday morning and caught a few black drum myself. Good fun on light tackle:-)

WATER FRONT DINING AT IT’S FINEST!

THE OCEAN IS NOT YOUR SWIMMING POOL!!!

I fished the north end of IOP on a family outing Sunday. Fished most of the outgoing, about 12-4 PM. Double dropper with half a piece of frozen shrimp on each hook. Got about 4 baby blacktips, 1 bonnet head (I couldn’t convince a few of the kids that is wasn’t a hammerhead) about 3lbs and a ton of small whiting. Whiting basically on every cast for a while, all pretty small, in the 8-10 inch range.
Water was pretty flat so was also throwing a topwater and running it back quickly along the surface hoping there might be some blues or Spanish around but no hits. Didn’t see any bait or anything busting bait on the surface either.
All the fish seemed to be just behind the breakers in the troughs, so just kept casting as far out as possible as the tide went out.
No black drum, no specks.

I caught 2 nice blad drum on Folly this week. Second one popped off right as I got him to me, knot came undone somehow, thats the worse feeling. Mostly catching whiting.

just curious, from the picture it doesn’t look like there is much of a trough where you were fishing, did you cast over the last breaker in the picture?

Where at in iop is best

From what I have read on here most members agree that between 31st ave and 41st ave is the best spot to fish IOP. Mostly because there is less people further down. As far as the fish biting it seems they bite all areas of IOP its just about finding the deep troughs and knowing where to cast.

Awesome thanks

Maybe I just haven’t surf fished enough but I’ve never had a lot of success fishing a hole or trough like this. Clearly you’re doing something I’m not!
I usually just end up chucking it as far as I can and as long as I’m not landing right on top of a sandbar, I leave it. But, for the most part, all I get are little whiting.
How big are the pieces of shrimp you’re using on the drouble drop? How ‘fresh’ is it? I usually just use frozen stuff from Ace or whatever’s close by.

Yup, I’ve fished spots that look exactly like that but never seem to do much.
Have you ever fished a topwater in a spot like that?
I was hoping the Spanish or blues would be close enough to reach from the beach but I didn’t see anything chasing bait on top last weekend.
