Good Day At Demetre Park

Anyone fish this weekend, have Thursday off, might get down there…

On saturday it was slow until noon, I got a blue, stingray, and some croaker, saw a guy get a big ladyfish from the end of the pier early but not much action after that. Sunday was even slower, 4 or 5 guys out with multiple lines and not so much as a bite for hours at a time (maybe a couple croaker and whiting and 2 blue between everybody). After 7 hours I got 2 ~footlong blues and a small whiting, left around 4pm. Had a good time with friendly people but I hope the fishing improves.

Hoping for some good weather this weekend to head out and try the area again after nearly 4 months. Wanting to hear good reports later this week. Out of curiosity but most of the reds that are caught are off the pier, correct? Because I had seen several large ones in the pond the last time I was there.

Didn’t know if people fished the pond or not, have never seen anyone fishing it and there is a pier/walkway there. Runs right into the harbor so makes sense fish would be in it. You have seen big reds in there?

Fished the pond Saturday for a little while. Lots of jumpers, no bites though. Used artificials…popping cork with gulp shrimp and a couple of lures. More so just checking the place out since it was my first time there. It stormed like hell so we had to break for a while. I’d like to try it out with live bait in the future. I feel like I’ve read that people have caught some big reds in there before.

Those are nice size blues, heard they are not the best eating though.

I don’t like to eat especially oily “fishy” tasting fish, So I freeze blues to use as bait. I used cut live shrimp a guy donated as he was leaving, had no luck on the regular double drop or carolina rigs all day so I found 4 old mismatched hooks from the bottom of my tackle box and looped them a couple inches apart through a leader, got the blues on it soon after that.

I haven’t tried the pond either but a guy told me it is stacked with reds and flounder. I have had enough good luck fishing the beach. Will try it soon though.

Wow, may fish the pond next time there.

Does anyone know if it is legal to launch a kayak or paddlebaord in the pond ? Heard there are some bruiser reds in there.

Fish tremble at the sound of my name.

I’m gonna probably go check it out tomorrow early afternoon. It’d be nice to see if anyone catches something good out of the pond. Race to see who does first?

Let us know what you see…

Oh, I know giant reds are in the pond, they cruise in and out with the tides, big drainage ditch right into the harbor. But as long as I’m catching them from the beach, I’ll keep my spot.

Ended up not fishing Demetre because I had to get several things done in Mt P, so I fished Pitt Street until sunset. Got some bites off popping cork w artificial and top water lure but no cigar.

Wow, fished my dock on Folly today, bite turned on about 2pm non stop but mostly whiting and bluefish.

Going back this weekend, prob. Sat morning, will let yall know.

By out at daybreak tomorrow 6-7 am., let me know who’s fishing.

I’ll be there around 7, using cut bluefish as bait hoping for another shark, I’ll likely have extra if anyone wants to use some

Got a flood tide in the am, low at 2pm, prob. going to fish the low through the high if I can make it out.

Couldn’t make it out today, wife made me do some work around the yard and house, how was the fishing… Good chance I will be by next week/weekend. Looks like I have Thursday off, will let everyone know.
