Good day despite swamp water...

Ran out into St. Helena Sound yesterday to check the water and all the runoff coming down the Ashepoo, Combahee and Edisto. Fished with neighbor…a Marine chef at Parris Island.
Water at the landing looked like Coca-Cola…brown with tannic acid but fairly clear. Expected to get skunked due to low salinity, but the fish cooperated. Stayed in trout all day…kept 9 for the table. Called in a friend and he got into the trout too.
When the trout slowed, went to a favorite spot and although the water was dingy, caught and released a bunch of spottails. Had 5 in the upper slot around 21 to 22 1/2 inches, plus several more slot fish. All in all one of the best days in a while despite the water conditions. Fish bit live shrimp and VuDu shrimp under Cajun corks. Weather was absolutely spectacular! Fall fishing has arrived in the Lowcountry!

Excellent :sunglasses:

Thanks for stopping by and checking up on us Jim. You weren’t even out of sight and my wife hauled in a slot flounder. Trout were good to us too! We’ve still only managed one rat red so far…maybe need to change rigs and/or tactics??.. We’ve been using live shrimp under Cajon Thunders too.

Try up in the grass over or near oysters on falling tide Dadsfr. Just after high down to 3/4 out. Then look closely for reds pushing near rakes about an hour before low up thru an hour after low…they’re beginning to school up.

Went to NN's super secret spot today (without NN :smiley: )...hit right next to grass right after high tide for a couple of hours. My wife showed the boys up today with an upper slot and lower slot red. I managed one slot trout but we did release several reds that measured right at 14 3/4" :sunglasses: along with several trout that almost made slot. Sure is fun getting those big reds and have take the Cajun Thunder for a walk through the grass!

Another absolutely beautiful day on the lowcountry water!!!

HA! Sure glad the weather and fish are cooperating for y’all.

Doug, It was great seeing y’all and Thanks a bunch for the the Pickled goodies:stuck_out_tongue:!!

I gotta get some to Wildlife!

Hit the other side of the secret spot today- lost count of the just under slot reds and trout that were released #128522;
I do know there were two over slot reds that went back but still managed 4 reds (1 was right at upper slot)and 2 trout in the box for the table…again another gorgeous day on the low country water!!

Got back to the dock and found the shrimp boat “Gracie Marie” tied up at the party house dock at Sam’s Point-hear that there will be a wedding on it Sunday and that she was brought in today for a tide check!

We hit Sam’s point and water was the same, maybe chocolate milk. Trout were biting though, well at least they liked the z-man paddle tail I was throwing. Decided to move and hit Station creek. Water was normal but fish were not interested. Shrimp under popping cork, cut mullet on the bottom and a variety of artificials… Guess that’s why it’s fishing.
