Good day in the surf

Mr. Parker, his wife and I headed out Saturday for a day of fishing. The day began bright and early with a fantastic sunrise that set the tone for what was to become a beautiful day. We began our day trying to round up some mullet in the cast net, and had no luck. Pushing forward we headed to our spot and were pleased to see some areas of good structure on the beach. We rigged up, and started slinging bait. Within 15 minutes the first big rod dip occurred, and it was a doozy. David hooked up with a big red that was around 38 inches! He put on a clinic of how to work the fish and after a 10-15 minute fight we had our first fish on board. David landed the big heavy red on 15lb test, with a tiny #2 hook, on a piece of shrimp the size of your thumb nail. Truly impressive:smiley: Unfortunately the tide pushed in on us and we had to vacate where we were fishing from immediately. Shrimp was the bait that produced for us most of the day. It was nice to get out when the tide was low, allowing us to check out the beach and look for troughs. The water temp has dropped quit a bit and the season is winding down with each passing week. Go get um while you can. The final tally was a couple of reds, well over a dozen black drum, a dozen or so nice whiting, 10 rays, one shark, and three trout. One trout was 20 inches. For the shark boy’s I did see a shark get air-born off the beach a bit and I believe it was a blacktip. Plenty of bait off in the ocean with birds hitting pods, and dolphin tearing into them. Wonderful fishing with David and his wife, and look forward to see what the future holds for us. Many more good day’s to come. God bless to all and good luck out there folks.

When you see “Old Glory” waving in the breeze, know that it is the dying breaths of our fallen hero’s that makes it wave.
