Woke up Monday morning and the weather forecast looked nice for the whole day. Gave my old man a call and asked if he wanted spend the day on the water. It’s hard for him to turn that down so we pushed off around 8 a.m. Fished a couple drops while waiting for the tide to come out of the grass. Once the mud line started showing I ran up into a few creeks and actually caught some nice bait shrimp. Headed to another spot and it was on. Time I pulled into the creek I saw a school of around 50 redfish. Of course I got excited immediately, but my dad didn’t really have a clue what he was looking at. I started yelling throw out that rod with the shrimp under the cork! He cast and Bam hooked up drag started peeling out and I set the trusty cajun anchor out. (Thanks Glenn) We stayed with those for the better part of an hour managed to pull in 11 of them ranging from 19" to 28" before the tide got up and they moved on. Hit a few more drops on the incoming and caught 2 more reds and 3 trout. One undersized trout and 2 nice uns around 18". Kept 2 reds and 2 trout for the grease. Most of the reds came on cut mullet and live shrimp. Caught 2 of the reds and all the trout on gulp shrimp both white and natural colors. All in all a good day… Dad sure had a lot of fun I managed to keep myself busy and let him do most of the reeling. Had one little rain storm sneak up on us but it passed quickly and we kept fishing. Here’s dad with the biggest redfish of the day 28".
