My buddy Kyle Calkins and I fished yesterday. Kyle always seems to bring the luck! We caught 36 reds up to 28 1/2 inches, but only 2 trout. We had several doubles. All fish came on mud minnows.
The photo of Kyle and a fish with 2 corks is a story itself. Kyle tightened up to set the hook and the loop on the cork broke and the fish swam back to the grass. I nosed up close, cast my cork next to the broken cork and half-jokingly told Kyle the mud minnow would swim around the leader and I could get his cork back. Sure enough, it all played out and we got the cork and the fish!
A great Thanksgiving weekend to fish with a nice young man…and we both were thankful for the great outdoor resources we enjoyed!
Good report!! Kyle is a lucky guy to have you taking him out!
That’s one heck of a day!!!
I called Jim yesterday about something while he was fishing and had to make it quick because they hooked up again while on the phone. That was cool.
Good job getting that young man on em!

You’re half right. No wind…plenty of gnats!

Thanks for the kudos, Larry. Hit it lucky…and only two spots produced…the rest, nada.
Do you mind saying what tide?
No problem. Fish bit on last 2 hours of incoming, then shut dow at high when the tide was way up. About the time good outgoing flow began, they bit again. I moved about mid tide falling to a spot I wanted to check and caught six more until around 4 pm and low daylight.
Since you didn’t mind saying what tide… What spots?
Seriously, though- epic day and really great pics!
Very nice day.
If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.
Was out on the Broad River today with Capt. Danny Rourke and we were catching trout and nice reds all morning long at several spots. Danny is a great guy.
