Evening,
Saw this on Craigslist. Been a while since I did anything but rent. Is this a decent deal for diving near shore reefs?

Thanks!

You’d have to take a good look at it. Aluminum tanks made before a certain date will have to be scrapped, because no one will hydro or fill them. The BCD is Medium, so it may not fit you. Some of the individual prices he listed don’t sound too far from what you’d pay retail, but the price on the regulator/gauges ($80) is good even if you take it in to be overhauled (which I would).
Pitcher is right on. I would compare at your local dive shop. Dive stuff does not hold value very well. Buddy call me today he is hurting for money wanted to sell his gear, did not ask what he had but can if you like.

Thanks for the replies. I think I’ll do a little reading and get caught back up. I used to be a “commercial diver” (diving for gold in California), then a Navy Diver. But it’s been a while since I spent significant time in the water. Looking to dive some of the nearshore reefs this year.
Best to all,

Thanks, CW, for the offer. I’m on James Island, natch! Maybe I’ll venture up your way this spring. I have one BIG problem that has plagued me all my life. I get seasick if anchored in a big swell, or sometimes even a little one. But Bonine seems to work really well for me. I have been really worried about ruining someone else’s trip by needing to go back in, so have really only thought about taking my own boat out. We’ll see how I do on the waves in the next few months.

No, that is not a good deal. From the looks of the gauges, the regs are not pictured, it is an old set of gear.
Buy a new reg set from leisurepro. Buy the time you get a used one and have it serviced they are not worth it, (unless you get a top of the line). Then go to scubaboard and look for a used BC, Computer (make sure it is a nitrox compter). Tanks, fins, and a mask can be bought second hand with no problems. When I started back diving I got everything I needed for about $600. It took some looking to get it, though.
