Hey guys whats going on. We’re coming down in about two weeks and we’re bringing the boat, what I was wondering if any of you knew a good island that I can beach the boat on and take my 3 yr old and the wife looking for shells and just doing some good old exploring. Thanks for any help.
We did a creek trip from the Edisto watersports & Tackle when we were down. The guy also does a shell beach trip. I am not sure if the island is private, but I do not think it is. If you leave from the Marina which is at the end of Big Bay Creek & head due west when you leave out of the creek into the bay you should see the beach across the bay. I think it is Pine Island or Otter Island. They are next to each other. Not sure what landing you are leaving from but if you can find the marina you should be able to find the islands.
Good luck.

Unless you are following someone who knows how to get in and out of Otter Island, DO NOT attempt to go in from the front side. Go to the Ashepoo (St Helena Sound) side of Otter Island.
Don’t know how big your boat is, but Devaux (sic) Bank is a great place for exploring - just not real big.
Let me know if you want more info.

</font id=“quote”></blockquote id=“quote”>Amen to that.
It gets REAL shallow over there, and you WILL run aground unless you know where to go.
Just trying to learn every bit I can about saltwater fishing…
Posting on a message board all the time doesn’t make you smart. Frankly, it just means you probably need to get a life.
Devaux banks (sp) is a great place to see and good shark fishing spot too. Stay below the high tide mark. we are going june the 12th

Wind out of the North, hit Otter. Wind out of the South, hit Botany or Deveaux. Either one, try to go at low tide. Less chance of getting beached. Seen a couple already this year on Otter. I don’t know how they got off. They were near the tree line. Good Luck!
If you ain’t hooked, you ain’t doing it right.

Its ashame that Otter Island has become a tourist spot.
I have been to Otter several times from the Beaufort way and only have seen about 3 other boats on the weekend. You definitely need charts to get there either from Beaufort or Edisto. Bugs can be really bad on the beach sometimes
