Put two rods out AGAIN late yesterday afternoon from 4:30-6 on the south end (700 block) of Folly.
1 with shrimp pieces the other with cut finger mullet. There was a really nice trough that had formed and that me and my little ones have to cross at lower tide to get to the sandbar in front of the breakers and I figured this would be the ideal place to put the baits once the tide came in and we got run off that sandbar. The trough was probably 3 feet deep before the breakers started coming over the bar.
Again, nothin.
It could be that there just aren’t any fish in the surf (I was thinking I’d at least get a ray, whiting, small shark or something!) or could be my bait (it’s really old, been sitting in the freezer for a long time) but if something came across it, I figured it would eat.
Good thing the family isn’t relying on me for dinner or we’d be having old shrimp and mullet.
Man, I’ve been singing the surf fishing blues also. USCG sez the ocean is 64 degrees. I reckon we must wait for 70 degrees.

Misery loves company. So, I guess I’m not the only one getting skunked. What are you using for bait? How you fishing it?
Same as you. Frozen whole shrimp from Bert’s and frozen cut mullet from last year on a single drop bottom rig.
3/8 water was cold still right at 60 first 80 degree day of the year but the fish were on at folly got 12 fat whiteing in surf on fresh cut shrimp on two hook bottem rig with 5 oz weights wade out and chunk as far as you can. hope this helps you guys
Fished the incoming surf again Sunday AM from about 7-8:30, still using those old shrimp pieces and cut mullet. Fished in the trough between the beach and breakers and again, not a (**() thing. Either the water hasn’t warmed up enough or my very old bait is that unappealing!
There we some whiting being caught off the pier and a few on the beach near the lighthouse.
Unfortunately, we move into our MT P house this week so I won’t have the beach out my back door any longer.
