I hit the beach with Grace Friday and we had a pretty good day. We landed 5 reds, a weakfish, a mess of black drum and couple of whiting. We also had 2 bite offs from sharks. The reds were mostly in the mid 20’s. The bait was fresh local shrimp. It seems the whiting and blues are thinning out some, but the black drum and red drum bite is pretty good. The next morning a buddy of mine joined me for a day in the surf. We were fortunate to land a bunch of mullet in the cast net in the morning. We caught a tarpon in the cast net as well We headed out to our spot and the black drum bite was good for a while, with them being pretty good size. We ended up with 5 reds, a couple of trout, several nice black drum, a lady, a blue, 0 whiting, 1 arm length shark. We also had a huge run that peeled off a 150yds or so of line. The sharks are still out. The water is still pretty warm for this time of the year. As night fell upon us it got a little chilly. We hung out for another 2 hours and I was glad we did. We pulled one more red before leaving. It was a bruiser:smiley: See you folks at the MAD event. Take care folks. Sorry photos not loading properly/ only excepting a few after very long wait.
thats a black drum alright haha! nice fish Pete! cant wait for saturday
Have you guys seen any spots make it down here yet? I spoke to a friend of mine and he said they are running around Topsail Beach, NC.
Thank you Papa, see you soon for the surf fishing trip.
Jdgore no spots out for me. Getting reds, trout, black drum pretty consistently. Whiting and blues are thinning out. A few sharks out but not a bunch. Talked to a buddy that went out this past weekend they caught 3 big reds and were in a great spot on Saturday. They also pulled 3 on Sunday. It was a good size crew fishing and only 6 reds in 2 days for the crowd. A couple of rays and 1 shark. They were in a prime location. One boy got popped by the ray and said it was the worst pain he ever felt, had a long boat ride to get to the hospital. It aint worth the hook.
