I was wondering if anyone has had any action in GCR? I’ve fished it a few times in the summer with minimal success but not this time of year. Are the crappie hitting now? What type of bait should I run?

Yea they’re there! Evenings with minnows near structure close to the bottom. Bite lasts around 30 mins. Just have to be there until they bite. Lighted bobbers seem to be the go to gear as the bite is often after dark.

Thanks! Maybe ill try to head out one evening on the kayak. Hopefully the gators will still be asleep lol

i didnt have much luck but this old fella at the landing caught his limit on the crappie he put in at ten and was out by 1 or so big ones i may add

Got out there at daylight. Covered about 3 miles of water and fished every piece of structure I could find. I tried minnows, shinners, and crickets and a few artificial. I had 2 hits in the 7 hours I was on the water with no fish! I’ve been skunked there too many times now. I think I’m done with that place lol.

how does one fish for crappie on the GCR? I want to bring my jon boat up there soon. Never been, i heard its all pretty shallow. I do a ton of pondhopping for bass around JI and I want to go catch some up there. what is the underwater terrain like?
