GoPro Mount

Well, Santa brought me a new toy this year, a GoPro Hero. I can’t wait to get started using it. Not wanting to reinvent the wheel, was wondering if anyone out there has had success filming in the boat while fishing. I have a center console and was wondering what a good mount to see most of the action would be. Also, if anyone has any links to “how to videos” I would appreciate it. I’ve been through most on YouTube but not many address fishing…thanks and hope everyone has a safe, prosperous and happy new year!!!

My recommendation would be to get a good pole mount maybe 4 ft long. You can stick it in a rod holder or lower into the water for underwater shots. And get creative with it there are a million cool shots you can get.

Suction cup mount you can stick to the side of the boat or windshield and then turn any way you need it.

Thanks guys for the suggestions…got the suction cup mount on order and plan to use a paint roller handle for a mount using a tripod mount to be able to screw it on a telescoping painters pole…the possibilities are endless…this is gonna be fun…

I took a piece of EMT conduit and cut it to 32" then poured roughly the bottom 3rd with lead and topped it off (once cooled) with caulk and squeezed it closed on the top. I then drilled a hole in the top/flat portion and attached a small shackle. Then I wrapped the entire piece with electrical tape to cut down on the chances of a toothy critter wanting to take a slash at it due to being shiny. The handlebar gopro clamp fit perfectly which was bout 4" from the top.
We dropped it down in just over 100’ a couple weeks ago and WOW…ARS were thick with several nice grouper, Trigs and BSB mixed in.

Gotta create a youtube account sometime!

As Optiker said, you could put this in a rodholder and video up top as well.

Mine is the Hero 2.

Edit, attached the rig to my buddies Bent Butt rod loaded with 130lb braid while in rodholder and dropped her down.

Hope this helps,

How about a Salt Life and Yeti sticker:question:

DoubleN that is a neat idea for deep under water shots. I’m putting that on my list for a rainey day…and I do have a Yeti sticker but it’s tooooo big

Limitout, do you have a trolling motor on your 1720:question: If you do, what make and shaft length:question: Have you given any thought about mounting the GoPro to a TM shaft:question: You could do that with hose clamps. Might be some neat footage!

Never thought about that but seems like it would work…it seems the possibilities are endless…I have a power pole on my Pathfinder and thought about placing one on those stick on mounts on the top of it…would be able to see the whole boat from that perspective

I use the anchor light with a handlebar mount … my Anchor light is 4’ tall so I get plenty of height … The anchor light is made to slide into either the front or back receptacles on my SeaPro … From the Front facing backwards I can capture every angle of my spread and the boat and the camera stays out of the way so it’s not an obstacle …

I also have the floaty back and used steel leader to tie it to a line so I could cast the GoPro out into schooling fish … Word of caution about that … I had a Barracuda smash my GoPro while using it in the Keys… GoPros and saltwater do not agree with each other … expensive lesson learned

… it’s my Wife’s fault we HAVE to fish !!!

Also get the hunters/sportsman mount. Little expensive but it’s great

There is an attachment that comes in the head mount kit that is a “Quick clip”. It basically can connect to the back of a ball cap. I used it to slide on the windshield of my center console. This is good for filming the front on my boat while fishing. I also built a pole out of an old broomstick and covered with duck tape, ziptied the basic mount to the end. Those are the two I have used recently. trying to find a durable rod/seatpost mount that isnt 20$ and wont break. I think I might opt for the ones on ebay for a couple dollars and just make sure I use a tether. I have also seen some one take the commercial clamps from lowes/HD and ziptie(crisscross) a sticky mount to it and you can pretty much put the clamp on anything. Glad someone started this because i just got mine too.

im not to sure, but im pretty sure…

I was filming some of the brood stock at SCDNR in the tanks and when I started lowering the cam into the cobia tank one of them whacked it! I have it all on film, pretty funny

Here’s what I’ve acquired/DIY’d so far…

  1. Took an old paint roller and removed the metal arm. Pushed a 1/4 x 20 bolt through the hole and attached a GoPro tripod mount. I can screw this on the end of any paint pole
  2. Got the suction cup mount and the clip mount for the hat.
  3. Got a Pedco ball and socket head which allows 3 axis rotation so I can set the camera at any angle on the pole
  4. Also made a mount that uses a tie wrap to hold it in place.

Now that I’ve got all this stuff, it’s 18 degrees outside…go figure!! Guess I’ll just have to wait till it warms up a bit…thanks for all the responses.

When you process your video for youtube, can you add your own music to the video? Someone told me you couldn’t because of copyright infringements. Anyone have any info on this?

Some artists have contacted Google and requested that their music not be used w/out giving proper credit …

If they have then YouTube will throw up a warning when you try to upload your GP video …

Typically you can get around these issues by searching for remixed versions of the music you want on YouTube … If it’s already posted on YouTube then you can use it …

But if you use any third party music you should probably give them credit … it’s just good form, if you know what I mean

Take a sharpie and blackout anything that is shiny. Like the buttons on the gopro case. I saw a vid on youtube and the triggerfish kept biting at the camera. I don’t want that myself.
