Dan this is a bit off topic, but have you guy’s ever entertained the idea of a shark fishing “seminar.” People could learn the right way in going about tackle, rigging, equipment, proper releasing the whole nine. It could also give you guy’s the opportunity to educate in way’s not to piss off the public, so we all don’t loose our right to surf fish. It could be a good platform to sell product, and you guy’s could charge a fee and apply it to your shark tagging initiative program. In the long run I’m sure folks would save money who attended. Just a thought, as I am in the process of trying to figure out the answers to many of these questions myself.[:I][:I][:I] Like I said earlier, thats a nice shark. Thanks for sharing it with us.
That kind of exposure is a double edged sword really - you can find all the info you really need on youtube videos, and the basic rules kind of apply - don’t shark fish right on swimmers and clean up after yourselves when leaving the beach. That’s why most of us fish at night, as not to draw too much attention to the sport - which is almost always seen poorly in the public, and also to try and get along with the swimmers, as we don’t have almost any beaches that are off limits to swimming.
I think a seminar, however well intentioned may have the negative impact of drawing too much criticism from the public who would rather there be NO sharks in the water, since we all know that they only reason that sharks are being caught in our swimming areas is because people are drawing them in with their fishing activities!
