Headed out with Lee on the Gotchacovered with MHogancu and a friend from columbia,…sshandra, jstrange and seahunt202 around 530 after watching the weather for a while from the dock…looked as if we might have a bit of a bumpy ride out which we did…but Lee managed to avoid the showers and squalls . Bit of a rough ride out even in the "go fast " boat (cant imagine what it would have felt like in ours)…and crossed some pretty big waves on the way out. Glad we made the trip because once we got there it was very fishable and not rough at all. Ended up catching 20 nice dolphin and a mako and lost a few arguing…not over who 's fish it was but because everyone was being so dang nice about trying to rotate and pass the rod off to the person who hadnt had one in a while:smiley:…Lee would just shake his head and laugh although he probablly wanted to throw the lot of us over the side:smiley:…everyone got a chance to drive “the big boat” and I got a chance to put my new “this is how I rig my baits” skills to the test and seemed to do ok with it( lee gave donnie, john and I a little seminar at the dock one afternoon…and I am sure glad he did!!) This was only my 2nd trip to deeper water and I had a blast and learned a lot in the process. What a great group we had fishing yesterday… Lee was very patient with all of us " guiding us in what to do (including the pre leaving the dock safety drill run). We all came back worn out and the guys quickly learned why you dont always need to keep all the fish you can…because half way through cleaning them the long day really started to kick in…and besides…we stll had plenty of fish to go around. Lee thanks for a great trip and guys…it was nice to meet those of you I had never met and good to see you again john…will post pics as soon as I can get them to download:smiley:
he put up a good fight for sure…those things have a evil eye and mouth full of teeth
heres a few more pics…finally got it figured out…
fish gone wild:smiley:…those things are some kinda mad when they hit the deck…!! this was the first fish of the day and the little fella got to go back home:smiley:
yes I kissed the fish:smiley:
why did mine always have to be on the logest line out??
nasty little mako:imp:
some pics after lines first put in…the wait begins…
back by popular demand…and because we asked him to…“THE TOUCH”…this one is dedicated to you Ricky:smiley:
Ha!!!you did have to bring that up…didnt you:wink:…
johns refering to the bag of cheez its I was trying to hold on to while sitting on the cooler and us making a short run…they were un-opened so I decide to pin them under my leg so I could get a better grip on the cooler…we hit a pretty big swell…butt goes up…butt comes down…bammm…it was like a big cheez it explosion!!![:0]…matt,john and someone else saw…Im shaking my head to silence them as matt and I start tossing as many of them over as possible before Lee turns around:smiley:…yep…one of my finer moments for sure! one of the many laughs we had that day…but this time at my exspense…shoould have seen them when I got a big slimy bloody fish kiss:smiley:…dont know if I did that because i was happy to have caught him or that he was finally in the boat:smiley:
Sellsfish --how about some ideals on how to prepare that Mako.I caught one in Hatteras about 2 weeks ago. Im sorry but it went into the box for the ride home.He was caught on a headboat on real light tackle and was a blast. Please PM me some Ideals on cooking.

you look like you had a good time. I see Penny hugging fish again.
28…don’t fry mako!!! that is a grill only fish. Any lite marinade is also good. use any swordfish recipe for it. cut the steaks about 1" spray with olive oil, salt / pepper and grill to med. rare!

Good trip guys and gals! Weather turned out pretty good. You must have been N of us a ways, tried to call ya with no response.
Agreed there with the grilling! Most shark is definitly best grilled, not baked, fried etc… Smaller the better usually as well, less urea buildup in meat.
Sorry I missed you on the radio, Russ. I wasn’t paying much attention much of the time as I was working the cockpit a lot. We’ll have to hookup and chat next time, though.
