gps numbers

got a new boat and the numbers from dnr website are not very good I’m finding a flatline where a wreck is supposed to be is there a better resource to get some numbers

top spot map

I like maps unique over top spot but have both and still refer to them occasionally. If you use them to get started , you will find your own spots by bumping around the numbers on the maps. Those maps are outdated but will get you in the vicinity of live bottom/hard bottom/artificial reefs… We are so flat here that if you are running out to a spot and see a drop of 5-10 ft rather abruptly, go back and slow walk the ledge. In my experience,Its bound to hold fish.

can you use the goto or navigate to feature with top spot my navionics chip has the buoys but I cant navigate from that screen

Take your time and drift these spots! Most all are off the mark! Sometimes by couple hundred feet in any direction! These GPS locations are the initial starting point of the reef creation not the actual location! So you have to be patient and drift these areas! The structure is usually there and the more you fish an area the more good bottom you can find in these location! Hope this helps!

Being on the water is a blessing, catching fish is a bonus!

the spots were way to crowded to drift I prefer that method

My numbers from DNR always put me right on the structures for artificial reefs. There are often other structures near those numbers.

Regardless of source (DNR, maps, etc) make sure you are inputting numbers in correct format. If you mix up decimal with deg/min/sec or other formats it will put you off a mark. DNR numbers can now be downloaded in a data file from the DNR website and they have files for different brands of chart plotters. A lot easier that way!

I’ve found the gps numbers from the scdnr book very accurate. The new one just came out a few months ago and it has
added numbers on some of the reefs.
The file that can be downloaded isn’t complete but it will get you to the primary structure.
Maps unique is also very helpful getting you to an area. From there start drifting/looking around.
The Top Spots map is next to useless IMO. The numbers Wally sold them are “close” sort of.
