It’s illegal to remove a sailfish from the water unless you’re going to kill it.

PART 635–ATLANTIC HIGHLY MIGRATORY SPECIES–Table of Contents

                 Subpart C--Management Measures

Sec. 635.21 Gear operation and deployment restrictions.

(a) All Atlantic HMS fishing gears. (1) An Atlantic HMS harvested

from its management unit that is not retained must be released in a
manner that will ensure maximum probability of survival, but without
removing the fish from the water.
(2) If a billfish is caught by a hook, the fish must be released by
cutting the line near the hook or by using a dehooking device, in either
case without removing the fish from the water.

Too many people on here don’t know that so thanks for informing them circle hook I would say 40% of the people out there should cut the line when they hook a bill cuz they don’t know what the Hell they are doing

grab the gaff and another cold beer

How do you know they were Yellowfin if you didn’t slow them down and see them? And to big Jigger… cutting the line upon hookup would be a very stupid thing to do… only one way to learn…everyone starts with the first one. Just sayin

Also any veteran needs to know that cutting the line upon hook up would be an illegal release

I meant cutting the line at the hook instead of ripping the hook out after putting it in your boat should have explained myself better

grab the gaff and another cold beer

or remove the hook with the fish in the water, as you are reviving him…

the fish doesn’t have to be boated just to remove the hook.

I agree

grab the gaff and another cold beer

I agree and yet you keep hearing of or seeing people with bill fish in their boat

grab the gaff and another cold beer

It’s the same thing as people not venting fish they throw back

grab the gaff and another cold beer

FRAUD… I would say “nice try”, but it wasn’t even that smooth…

we did see the yft.he came half way out of the water after the bait.

I don’t no how to post pics.
