Great Dane

This was passed to me by a lady doing rescue work. I’d take this dog if I had my house built in the country but can’t where we are. This is an approx 2yo Great Dane pure blood. Someone took him to a kill shelter because “they didn’t realize he’s get that big”. This lady’s organization rescued him from the needle and wants to put him in a good home.

I’m not trying to spam or make any money from this but just want to find this big boy a home.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

We had danes growing up, I’m partial to them myself.

Good on you Salty, I applaud you’re concern. That’s a beautiful boy. Like you I’m not in a position to take him myself but I am associated with lots of good folks who are heavily into animal rescue here in the upstate and will pass it on.

I too will pass it on at work. I asked Donnie if he might consider…he looked at me like I was crazy :). He said…that’s a rally cool dog…but with Roo already sleeping on the bed with us…where would that leave me to sleep? He is a prince that’s for sure. Hope he finds a good home too. We were lucky to adopt Roo…someone will be lucky to have him too

I wonder if Maureen would get mad…:sunglasses:

Passing this along…who gets a Great Dane and is surprised by how big they get??

We called up there to see about getting him, and they want a $250 - $450 fee…to rich for my blood on an unknown dog. To bad, he would have had a good home with my pack!

Am I missing something here? These people went and got this dog from a shelter that was going to put him down and now they want 250 to 450 for him . Is this a business and they are trying make money by rescuing animals and then selling them. Something does not add up here!

The girl was unsure how much due to the fact that he was a pure bred. I would have been fine with $100 fee, but that is crazy. Sorry Salty!

Paul; I’ll chip in $100! Just because I know he will have a good home with you guys. Any one else? PM me Paul!

Would love to have him but like I said earlier something just doesn’t add up. We already have a Great Dane and enjoy her very much, she would love 2 have a play partner. Just wish this was true!!!

Ill chip in some dough. May not be able to do 100 but i will help and every little bit counts. I think everyone that can should chip in a little and we could cover the fees in no time. yall just let me know.

Great looking dog, but there’s no more room in our bed [

A couple of years ago we looked into getting a golden retriever from some rescue shelters. Talked to a lot of people and looked at a lot of dogs at shelters. That was about the going price for the main rescue organizations. It’s not too out of line considering they have medical exams and treatments, been spayed or neutered, up to date on all vaccinations, flea and heart worm medications and whatever else it needs, not to mention someone has been feeding and housing that horse and shoveling it’s poop:smiley: So you pay for all that up front, which is probably a wash if you payed for it all yourself. It’s not cheap to take a dog to a vet and do all that.

Edit: Heck yeah, I’ll chip in $25 for the big guy to find a good home.

Me too for 25.00 if needed. We ended up paying 150 in fees when we got ROO from John ancrum. Have been “re-paid” many times over in the love and joy she has brought into our lives

So when “said” rescue team saves a dog they want more money if he/she is a pure breed? That doesn’t sound like they are rescuing for the sake of saving an animals life, but rescuing for saving a seemingly better dog than a mixed breed that might just be a much better companion. I’ve got a German Sheppard that just turned 13, thanks to “pure” breeding she is almost incapacitated from Hip Dysplasia. Great Danes are just as prone if not more so for bad hips at older ages. Y’all may prove me wrong but I don’t think I know of one Dane that has made it past 10 years old.

I paid $175 for bailey.Paul I will give you a $100 also.

Paul! Looks like you might be having a new pooch for the pack, if you want? This is working so well, I’m going to post a picture of a new rescue Pick-Up, I want:smiley:

So Far
Easy $100
Stono $100
Penny $25
Cracker $25
jimmyA $some
pippin 21 $50
sharky $25
That covers the low end of the cost scale! I’m sure we can get the rest up! Let’s get this big pooch a home CF! Paul, let us know something.

You are correct in this . I worked as a vet assistant for 7 years and we saw hip issues a lot in shepards,Danes, golden retrievers it seemed. Breed should not make a difference in a rescue fee though…in my opinion. Just wanted to help find the pup a home and since Paul and the other guy with a Dane already showed interest…when Donnie and I were getting Roo there was a lady there with her son looking at puppies. They were caught off guard by how much and asked if they could take a little less as she didnt have that much…boy was holding this little terrier dog and grinning ear to ear as it licked his face. They told her no and they couldn’t hold or promise pup would be there on her payday next…even with a deposit. Made me mad for the pup and for the mom and boy. We paid the fee and w
