A buddy and I hit it saturday and it turned out to be a great day. We went out at low tide, scouted the beach set up and fished the incoming tide. The sw winds were nice no problems with bait sticking, had nice waves and currents but not too much. We threw everything but the kitchen sink at them, used cut mullet, crabs and caught some live finger mullet and threw that as well. We fished a " Y" what I mean by that was a long cut went from dunes to beach ending with two cuts that dumped into the ocean. The water was warm, not chilly at all, and there was plenty of bait in the surf. Took us a while to get into the fish, we stuck it out and after the water came in a bit our luck changed, the bite was on:smiley:. We dropped bait at the end of the two cuts where they met the ocean and caught reds waiting there using the natural structure as an ambush spot. What began as a crappy day turned into a record day at the drop of a dime. For three years in a row Ive hit 13 reds three times and failed to get over the hump , the bite kept shutting down on me, not today, we landed 15 reds, no monsters, but we did our best. The sand was like quick sand and made for a brutal day physically walking and pulling the carts through, it was hell to put it lightly, working in shin deep soft sand. With the water being so warm we still have a few weeks left easy, as long as the bait holds up.

Epic day Pete! We had the car packed on the way Sat. morning, pulled out of the drive, Transmission troubles… back home it was. Was looking forward to a few myself.
NICE HAUL!!!
Awesome catch!!! Any keepers or were they all just over? I went Thurs through Saturday and only had 2, one on Thurs and one yesterday. Think I really need to pay more attention to the cuts. Thursday and Friday I was at IOP and there are quite a lot of sandbars at low tide with pools behind at low tide, fished the back side of them…stupid me.
Thanks Mr. Parker sorry to hear about your troubles, Last outing big fish small numbers, this outing small fish big numbers, Im not sure whats better. Wish I had brought some smaller rods, would have been better suited for that day. Half the day we used 1 rod each and had to make our way through thick sand 30-40yds and then cast and stand in surf with the rod and hold it, carts were to hard to pull through the muck, we actually put most fish up then with 1 rod each instead of with the usual spread, burned our legs up.
Walkman, 6 keepers out of the bunch, Sometimes the fish are close and sometimes you do have to cast far, theres no set place for them to be always, it can change, for that day we caught a few 20 ft in front of us then it shut down, then later we found ourselves casting as far as we could and hitting the same hole when the tide was higher, we focus on dropping the bait in the holes or troughs first, If thats not working and the fish arent comfortable coming in there, we try putting bait on outside of bar, sometimes none of it works. You can try a hole and get nothing which will then turn into a great spot an hour or two later when the water fills in a little more, it truly is so important to hunt down structure places with holes, bars, cuts, areas that just look different than the rest of the beach, scouting is a important part and is best done at low tide because you can see the beach, those pockets of water you see at low tide, mark them, Ill actually draw arrows in the sand at the high tide line pointing to the area I want to fish, I have also heard of people marking holes with pvc poles, but this I dont do, I hope theres something you can use here thanks walkman.
