Not sure how many of you are aware of Chris Fischer and the work he has done with Ocearch and great white tagging. I am not his biggest fan but am interested in the comings and goings of the sharks they are tagging in New England.
The screen shot below shows the movement of a 16 foot great white named Mary Lee over the past couple of weeks. Apparently, she was checking out some of our favorite fishing and bait gathering spots at the entrance to Port Royal sound. This is also the second time she has been in our area. Earlier in November, she passed by on her way to Jacksonville. Mary Lee is currently lingering around the Cape Hatteras area.
So, just how big is a 16 foot great white? Here is a picture of Mary Lee being tagged off of Cape Cod:
Curious why no one in the local media has picked up on this. Chamber of Commerce embargo?
I know there is another smaller (14 ft) shark named Genie still lingering offshore in the Hump/Needle area. I just thought it was pretty cool that we had a great white INSHORE.
I guess we can now return to posting pictures of trout and reds…
The scary thing is this is just 2 sharks that happened to be tagged. They are frequently near the inlets, sounds and nearshore reefs. What about all the other Whites out there, you KNOW they are all over the place! Yikes.
