Greenie Tips?

Could someone share a tip/location for catching greenies? Never done it and would appreciate a point in the right direction. I have all the necessary sabikis/nets/chum but not sure where to start in the Beaufort area. Thanks guys.

Anywhere in the broad river around the rips. The same place you would cobia fish. Look for them on top or watch your depth finder and look for it to go from 10ft to 20+ft. Having a chum bag on the bottom tied to an anchor dropping the sabiki right behind it will make it much easier.

I always seem to catch more at the 170 bridge on the rip than other places in the broad. May just be us though.

As said above, you will almost always find them along the rips. They dimple the surface as they move and you can usually see them, they look similar to rain drops hitting the water and move in schools. They are wherever you find them but easy to catch once you do. Just chunk a sabiki rig into them.

When anchored on a good rip they will usually move through in large schools if you are in the right place. Just keep a sabiki rigged and ready for when a school passes. They are a lot easier to catch than cobia, you can reel them in 6 at a time. I prefer live whiting for bait, so we fish for those too while waiting on a big boy, but greenies are great baits.

Like Larry said above they move in schools. You can keep dropping that sabiki rig down there for an hour with not even a nibble. Then in 5 min catch and put 25-30 in the live well.

don’t mean to look dumb but by rip I assume that you mean the strong flowing current across some structure or bottom feature?

Yep. That’s exactly what he means.

Even if you don’t find the dimples, make a few blind throws of the cast net on the rips, I can’t tell you how many times this has saved my day when I can’t find any pogies.
