So whats the deal? All the boats are gone and the place looks closed up?
How do things look at the West Ashley store?

The Daniel Island store is now closed for the winter.
The W.A. store is open.
From what I’ve seen and heard, the boat inventory and service staff has been combined at the West Ashley store. The Daniel Island store is mothballed for the winter, to be reopened this spring.
Interesting… did they do that last year?
I have a hard time believing that they would spend that kind of money to close it up for the winter. Sounds more like downsizing, getting rid of the fat. If a boat business makes enough money do close up for the winter…maybe I need to get into the business… I could see maybe closing for a month or so but for 4-5 months? It is only early October, shrimp season is going on…
Keep it simple
Nothing wrong with that, if it keeps you going. Gotta do what ya gotta do to get through. Those who do will surely profit later.

The expenses on that place must be very high. Since its new they have to pay those expenses no matter if they are open or closed.
Doesn’t make sense that its closed just “for the winter”. People boat year round here.
They don’t have to pay utilities if they aren’t using them…The money spent is a sunk cost - irrelevant. Future costs (ie - utilities, etc.) are the only things they should be considering in deciding if they should keep it open or not. Sounds like thay are doing what they need to do to reduce costs.

Their largest boat line Scout is temp down as well, I think they will be opening back up just fine when Scout assumes production on their new 2010 models, not too many people buying a 295 abaco to shrimp out of…
They won’t be back, consider them gone from that location. And the 2010 Models went into production this past July.
if they are gone, why did they just have a dealer meeting three weeks ago?
I didn’t realize they only sold 295 abacos, I thought I saw other boats out there as well. Oh yeah, they did…
Keep it simple
Makes sense to me… Maybe they are cutting expenses so they can continue to give everyone a fair price. More power to em’. OR, they could keep it open, and raise prices next year to make up for it…
This is not a market for a store like that, at least not right now. Hankel sent a good bit of the inventory to the auction, mostly dated stuff. Closed the Daniel Island store. The few employees left are at the other store. No tellen if they will re-open in that location…look at the old Summerville Marine. TOO MUCH OVERHEAD.
Many dealers have been forced to reduce in size, go back to the basics, relieve themselves of high cost floor plans. The market just will not support it. This has been a challenging deal. New boats are not selling, and the market is Flooded with New yet Repo inventory from other dealers. Hard to sell that 30K scout, when another dealer bought the same one from auction brand new for 12K less.
Batton down the hatches, do good service work, and wait.

I’m a firm believer that if you take care of your customers and do a good job they will take care of you. Regardless of the economy!
The point is look at that place. It’s huge! Either way it is costing them a small fortune every month in a lease or mortgage whether the lights are on or not. Trust me they are great, I buy a ton of stuff from them. It was just bad timing to open a place like that by a small local company.
And the fact their only paying tenant went belly-up in less than a year…
Not closing for winter, builidng is on the market

That looks more like an available “for lease” listing…
It only makes sense that they’re going to try to lease out the old BW side.
This doesn’t specify if it’s for the whole bldg or just the old BW section.
