I wish for 59 again NN…it is #68! Now if i can just find my spectacles…

Happy Birthday Mr. wildlifeSc!
Thanks for all of the good posts!

A lot of perks come with being 68. Almost free life time hunting and fishing license, half price state parks pass and reduced camping fee, cheap life time National Parks pass and 1/2 price camping fees, cheap drinks at McDonald’s, reduced admission to many events, big break on property taxes on primary home, reduced income taxes, good health insurance. It does suck that the body cant’t hold up to what it use to and the mind doesn’t realize it. HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Thanks all!

I particularly like that “almost free” Lifetime License. I helped create that program while with DNR and it’s one of which I am most proud…along with getting the agency out of the dark ages by offering license sales via mail and online.

The $9 Lifetime License is such a great deal for anyone turning 64 or already past that age. It’s the cheapest license you can buy at that age…offering everything required recreation-wise except migratory stamps and shrimp baiting permit…and it’s a one time fee.

The real winners, however, are our natural resources of wildlife, fresh- and saltwater fisheries. Every Lifetime License holder is counted as a paid license holder in the state…and the feds rebate federal dollars back to the states every year based on the number of PAID license holders. This rebate now amounts to over $3 per year, per license holder…money that MUST go back into hunting and fishing related programs which benefit us all…even non-hunters and non-fishermen.

There is a free (gratis) license available to everyone aged 65 or older, but NOT ONE of those can be counted as a license holder…so the state loses over $3 for every one. Anyone out there who has a gratis license can simply get a $9 Lifetime License and you will be counted every year until your death. While you’re at it, get a license for your spouse or loved one if of age so they can benefit the resource they enjoy as well.

Not THAT’S what I call a deal! And I will quitely step down off my soapbox now.

That’s awesome, Jim. Great job, and thank you for all of your hard work that benefits every single member of this site! Happy Birthday!

Perks for Jim are advances in erectile dysfunction treatment, pharmaceutical breakthroughs in dementia, much stronger meds for anger management, new Depends that are less noticeable and a greater public acceptance of fishermen who keep Ensure in their ice chest…Blair did miss anything?
