Anyone know who drives a blue 20ish foot CC named “Happy Ours”? Probably a member of Goldbug I’m assuming…
I saw a boat at Charleston Harbor Marina with that name on it.

Gotcha. So, I’ve debated posting this, but here’s the deal. Coming south in the ICW near Goldbug and I’m literally idling back through the No Wake there. This group is swimming and they start yelling about how I need to slow down. I’ve been boating my whole life and have been on numerous boats, captained by very experienced boaters that have been told to slow down in front of Goldbug - in all occasions, we’ve been going idle speeds. Not sure what’s up with those people, but whatever. This big woman is swimming around and starts cussing and one of the passengers on my boat (who’s actually in law enforcement) shoots the woman a bird. I just ignore them, as I figure they’re all drunk. Get under the bridge and one of my friends on my boat says “I think they’re chasing us”. I turn around and see this boat running about 30mph under the Sullivan’s bridge toward us. There were several people on the boat - a middle aged man is driving and the big woman is standing up on the bow screaming. They come right up beside me in front of Toler’s, take a picture of my boat and start screaming about how they’re going to “call the laaaaww!” I tried to talk to them, explain I wasn’t speeding and that they actually broke the law by running the speeds they were under the bridge. When I said that, the guy (driver) sort of backed off, but the woman kept screaming. They continued on about calling the cops, I told them to go ahead, I’d done nothing wrong and then our friend on the boat mentioned that she is in law enforcement. Regardless, they kept on screaming, throwing stuff at my boat and causing a scene. I got past the No Wake and just took off. Get to the next one and they run wide open, through the No Wake at the harbor entrance, up against the side of my boat again. I did my best to ignore them and once I got to the harbor I opened it up and outran them - not really to run, but just to diffuse the situation. They followed (as best as they could) through the harbor, but I guess turned around somewhere near Shem Creek
The moment your friend flipped them off yall invited more chaos. Probably really pd them off when they found out she was in law enforcement. Some people have no class and alcohol can make anyone act classless. Leaving the situation is always the best option. Probably best to report it just in case they reported something against you and to have it on record in case of future incidents.
i wonder if they are the owner of Happy Ours bar

If you were doing nothing wrong, I would have ignored them. If you were going too fast, slow down and maybe even an apology (or ignore). As for your friend the LEO, I hope she shows more restraint while in uniform.
“Apathy is the Glove into Which Evil Slips It’s Hand”, but really, who cares?
Being a LEO she should have known that typically only makes things worse but regardless they had no right to harass you like that.
The smart thing to do would have been to pull out the pistol & empty the clip into the side of their hull just at the water line & then yell out them “you can go back to swimming now”, ha…

You handled it appropriately considering location. Intoxicated people are easy to piss off, and there’s nothing wrong with the middle finger, sometimes intoxicated people doing stupid things need the middle finger.
I experienced the same situation last Wednesday in the ICW,about 100 yds south of that location. This group was anchored in the channel, all occupants in the water "swimming ",could have been the same group , don’t know as I purposely didn’t make eye contact. A lot of people around here nowadays are absolutely clueless when it comes to safety on boats, and what’s actually legal when it comes to navigational rules of the road.

Were you no wake or were you idling back after entering the no wake?

Oh, I was no wake. The Goldbug dock is well within the buoys, so I had already well throttled back by then. One of my friends pointed out when that was going on, there was a jon boat and a small flats boat that were passing me, as I was getting yelled at about slowing down… Just drunk rednecks.
I don’t get it - I’ve got several good friends - really good people - that are members out there. At the same time, I’ve had a few heated arguments with people out there as well. That’s a mixed bag out there at that club.
Isn’t this why we carry flares? Send one screaming across the bow, that’ll shut the big lady up.

Love it. I had a discussion last week with a friend/coworker about keeping a firearm on the boat. I told him I don’t keep one on my boat and he was telling me I need to. After Saturday, I’m starting to agree.
I’m not one to escalate a situation, but had they pulled one or something… There wouldn’t have been much I could do.
And my friend - without getting into too much detail… She’s not a uniformed officer, but she is employed by a local branch of our law enforcement. She is very well connected and knows the laws. So, I can’t claim that she’s a LEO (and I haven’t), but she is “in law enforcement”.

Get a bucket, put about 20’-30’ of good floating nylon rope with some knots and tangles. Next time something like that happens, casually toss it out at their bow as they pass…that will slow them down.

ive tried that, it doesnt always work too well. you’d be amazed how hard it is to get a rope tangled in a prop when a boat is on plane.

BIG negative on that one. Point your inaccurate blame elsewhere, thank you.

Sounds like typical Leo giving himself a bad name by starting the situation with initial retaliation. Do stupid things expect stupid results!
I know a boat named happy ours but its a duel console 24’
Look at where Jesus went to pick people. He didn’t go to the colleges; he got guys off the fishing docks.
Yea, a friend sent me a picture he took during all that mess - it’s a 20’ or so light blue Sea Hunt.
And no, these weren’t any Ohioan transplants (I wouldn’t think anyway). Lifelong South Carolinian, with my formative years spent in Powdersville/Piedmont, SC - I know how to spot a redneck…
