Having difficulty mounting an ipilot

I am having some issues upgrading my trolling motor because of the edge clearance. The clearance of the step edge around the boat is preventing the mounting bracket from being located in its proper location. If I hang the bracket too far over the edge, will it rock itself loose? (there are only 4 bolts into the boat deck.) Have any of you overcome this problem?
I have posted photos below. Also I would like suggestions on what to use to fill the old holes. Thanks for your help and comments.

bad_habit, Your good to go! I had to add a pulpit to even get my front 2 bolts into something. No problems so far!

thanks easy. I will try and finish it tonight. Looking forward to fishing Friday!

I would first bolt a starboard spacer to bring the mount even or slightly above the lip, then bolt the quick release mount through the spacer and deck. It won’t hurt to add a couple of more bolts to that mounting plate also. It’s a small surface area with a lot of torque and leverage on it. Use a backing plate and large washers underneath.

Or use these and longer bolts!http://www.westmarine.com/buy/west-marine--stainless-steel-toggle-anchor-bolts--P018_540_003_527

If you go with the toggle bolt anchors, you will have to drill the bolt holes bigger, as they take 1/2 inch holes to go through! Best way to make them larger is to plug the existing holes with a wooden dow, tapered down to fit and drill through it! Or go with something like this!

That last pic doesn’t solve the problem.

This raised bow edge is the reason I don’t have one on the Bentz-Craft

Leadenwohboy, just disregard the last picture if it won’t work for you! It was a suggestion for bad_habit! Don’t ask for workarounds, if you don’t want them! Do whatever you want. I don’t even remember you asking for a fix? So you say it won’t work for, bad_habit! Stuff it up your AZZ!

Sometimes they aren’t easy. I molded this spacer to mount a trolling motor on a Mako. It had a lot of lip and bow camber and curve. Nothing on the bow deck was flat.

Made a mold from foam and plastic…

Filled it with epoxy and glass fibers…

Remove mold and test fit…

Finish up, paint and install…

Nothing to it

Larry, you’re just to nice! Someone tells me I don’t help, the He** with him, if he doesn’t want it:face_with_head_bandage:

bad habit
you just need a spacer to get the entire mount up a little bit
1/2" starboard should work just fine

Thanks for all the suggestions. After some thought me and the ole man came up with some homemade spacers that I think will work. They are from an old rubber mat. We cut out 4 spacers w/ hole saw. Should be weather proof enough… The rubber was a little taller than the lip. PROBLEM tonight was my 3" bolts will not work, but the one 4" worked great! I could not get underneath the deck so I had to use a “Flip Toggle.” (found them at Fastenal). Thanks for the idea EASY on those at West Marine.
I will post completed project Wed night hopefully!

Maybe you should read before posting? The OP posted looking for a solution to RAISE his mount. You posted one of a flat bow that didn’t require modification other than OUTBOARD, not UP. My post was in response to your irrelevant picture, not requesting a fix. It won’t work for him, he has a raised bow edge like some of the rest of us, NOT like yours.

And before you go slinging insults and the like, make sure you’ve read and comprehended the entire thread.

Headinyourass, he didn’t ask how to raise the mount above the ridge, He asked if the bracket was too far over the edge will it rock itself loose! I showed him a workaround and told him where to get the longer bolt anchors! Now you go back to reading comprehension! It was pretty obvious, he already knew he had to shim it up! A pulpit is the answer! How he does it, is for him to figure out! No need to put my suggestion in the trash!

You’re right! When you post something worth considering I may answer it!

I wasn’t aware this forum had so many internet tough guys.

Maybe you should read, before trying to impose your all seeing might, on others suggestions! Look, before you leap

All seeing? Nope. Close, but not quite. I don’t, however, even when right, resort to name calling and insulting people, especially when I don’t know them from Adam. I know it’s the internet and there’s no repercussions, but it’s just classless.
