Got the boat serviced, the tackle straight and cant wait! Heading to Edisto next weekend for a week of fishing. 18’ Edgewater. Would greatly appreciate suggestions. Love to fish for dolphin…how far off of Edisto would we need to run to find dolphin? Like to cobia fish too…do they run in St. Helena? We like inshore too…trout, reds, flouder…has anyone been able to catch live shrimp?
Truly apprieciate your help!
Hmm ok -
18’ boat, is probably not gonna get you far enough offshore for Dolphin, unless its really flat, but you’d need to be really careful.
Yes, there are cobia in the St Helena. Go there and look for the other boats.
Yes, there are shrimp in the creeks, and decent size too. Try casting at low tide in little pockets in the creek edges. There are also tons of menhaden literally everywhere right now. Great bait. “Match the hatch”
Have fun! Another option for your boat (same size as mine), is the Edisto 40 reef or Edisto Nearshore. Reef locations can be found in the menu at the left <= of this site. The E40 is about 9.5 mi offshore. Watch the weather and sea conditions of course.

Thanks for the advice…I’m happy to hear the shrimp are in the creeks. We live in NC and read a lot about the shrimp kill over winter due to low water temperatures.
Your right about my boat size, its got to be a good day, but its an ocean skiff with a really deep v and handles pretty good in seas up to 4ft. Not much fun though. I had it about 30 miles off of Charleston last summer and caught some dolphin and a few kings over live bottom. The biggest limitation is fuel, it only carries 39 gallons.
Just thought I’d ask to see if anyone is picking up dolphin close in.
Thanks Again!
I’m the wrong guy to ask about dolphin. The E40 is about as far as I dare to take my little boat. I can tell you that my son caught a few dozen good fishing size shrimp in our creek this morning near low tide. I think the shrimp made it through the winter a lot better than the seatrout did. The trout got depleted pretty badly in Edisto. Charleston also, but I don’t think quite as bad. Have Fun
