Heading to the Ross to see what’s around this Wednesday. Anyone been recently? Hoping for a little tunny extravaganza.
What do you do with the Tunny’s?
I would really appreciate you throwing some whole in the freezer for me if you are near Beaufort. Maybe we can work out a trade of some sort?
Let me know please.
Thanks for any consideration,
NN

Catch and release. We will catch 30+ per trip this time of year. It is an absolute blast. There is probably too much wind for the fly rod this trip so we will use 15lb spinning tackle. You have to chase some of them down to prevent a quick spooling. It is probably the most overlooked game species in our waters. The only fishing that is more fun is the spring dolphin run since you come home with meat. I burn a lot less fuel with the little tunny so I can go buy a bushel of singles and a 12 pack.

Yep, kind of like Spanish, you got to run and eat 'em. But, awesome when you do.

Glenn-the Tunny’s we caught with Capt Wally were marinaded in some garlic herb seasonings for half an hour and then popped on the grill. I’m thinking that I would have liked them more with some BBQ sauce though-not the best eating fish I’ve had but still not bad either.
Each fish produced four long strip fillets after the boney center section was cut out of each side.
It takes a real man to eat Little Tunny…too red & bloody for my taste.
Best if gilled & gutted and soaked in a saltwater brine to leach out the blood. Makes decent tuna salad…best served on a plank where you toss the tuna and eat the plank.
Or used as bait to catch a good fish Not me, I ain’t eating that [:0]

Ride was bumpy to the Ross. LT were hit and miss. No big schools Used some as live bait to hook bigger critters. Caught and release a few large toothy monsters. Had a ball. Great time of year.
