Being summer is almost over and my grandson has been talking about nothing but sharks all summer, we decided to give him a special trip and focus only on Sharks for a day just because we had found that they are so plentiful in Edisto area. So it was our shark week for the family. Last week we caught a nice Bonnethead Shark and being we knew we could probably replicate that we set out for the exact same spot and fished that one spot all day. We had Shrimp, Live Finger Mullet, Live Shrimp and live crabs provided by Flowers Seafood at edisto. We caught and released several sharks that I think where Sharp nose or something , but really have no idea for sure. Would appreciate some help identifying the first one. We caught two of these. The largest one caught by my grandson and I have to say that his Zebco 202 reel gave up the ghost getting this one to the boat. It was caught on just a small finger mullet and it really made his day. We ended up hand lining the last 20 ft because the drag was totally shobt on the little zebco and it just went completely out.
We also caught two Bonnethead Sharks 16lb and 20 lb, not quite as big as last weekend but they both put up a good fight.
also caught a lot of sting rays, man a lot of sting rays on finger mullet. one in paticular put up a good fight and was fun to pull in for the son.

Fun catches! The first photo is an Atlantic Sharpnose, the others are Bonnetheads. And, of course you know a flapper when you hook one!

Need to rephrase my last post. We caught some larger mullet on cast net looking for finger mullet, we caught 3 all total larger ones, we used them for bait live and caught a few sharks on those. One large one got away. But it was the better choice of bait for the day.

Basically what you look for is any point or mouth of a river channel whatever you call them. The bonnetheads seem to like points and mouths of rivers on outgoing tide. This particular one you can achor up on the side or anchor in the middle. You want to be there at least 3 hours before low tide and we did get a few bites about an hour and a half after low tide when the water started moving again. Carolina rig, with some good strong line. All the ones we lost where on 10-20lb test. 40lb test brought everything to the boat and was still fun. On a small rod they are a blast to fight and really i guess you know all kids love sharks. This is where I caught my 30lb one a week ago. Have fun and bring and extra kid if you can.
Have fun and let me know.
