Hilton Head late July

Hey Guys… Florida guy headed up to the HH area late July and have decided to drag the 18’ Regal up with us. We are planning to leave it in the water at one of the marinas for the week as our home base near the bridge coming onto the island. Was hoping for some guidance on areas to fish on the Sound. I know there are plenty of sharks, so that will be the plan when we bring the nieces out 1 of the days, but any suggestions on where the son and I can go for other types? We mainly run the St Johns River here in Jax south of the Buckman, normally hitting the croaker holes or running the creeks. Not much time in a true salt water sound. So any guidance would be appreciated…

We are also planning a day trip over to Dafuskie with the family to sight see, any areas to watch out for?

Thanks in advance…

You should be good running over to Dafuskie, just be weary of the large sand bar that runs out to the green marker at the end of Broad Creek off Brahms Point, just head straight for the marker and you should be fine. If you want to head over to the Port Royal sound and follow the Pogies around in late July by some of the sand bars, may have a shot at a nice Tarpon over there. Calibogue is not as good as the Port Royal sound.

We’re in the same boat as you … coming down for the first time in late July & staying close to South Beach Marina.
I am bringing my 20-foot deck boat. Will shoot you a PM and maybe we can share information.

There is a red marker as you enter the channel behind Daufuskie from Calibogue Sound. Make sure to go on the Daufuskie side of the marker like the ferries do, especially during low tide. I lost some skeg paint there this summer.

You could pick ups some bull reds off the rip in front of harbor town. Cut mullet fished on the bottom. Use a Caroline rig, 6-8 oz egg sinker with about a 4-6 inch leader. Will catch plenty of sharks too.
