Hilton Head surf fishing

I will be in Bluffton on Friday and hope to have a window to get out to Hilton Head and surf fish for a few hours. I will be with a friend who lives in the area but does not fish. My fear is wasting time trying to find a place not knowing where to park or what is accessible. If someone could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciate it.

Tight lipped. Hard to believe no one is fishing the beach this time of year. My other fears being that all of the beaches are private or that surf fishing is prohibited.

I will find somewhere to go and will probably still post if I catch something worth mentioning.

I would try the Forest Beach areas, you can fish anywhere on them. Also if you want to pay $5 to get into Sea Pines for the day go down to South Beach right by the “toe” of the “shoe” if looking at the shape of hilton head. Take a cast net try to net some Pogies and keep a watch out for schools cruising the beaches. You may land a big red by casting a Pogie into the school, may a Jack too. Unfortunately there aren’t any prime surf fishing locations that I know of! Use a Carolina rig with maybe a 3-6oz. weight. Not a big surf-fisherman, but that is what I would do.

Thank you very much. Those both seem like possibilities. Do you happen to know how close the parking is to the beach?

Parking is very close to the beach and in Sea Pines you can park at salty dog and it is not far either2-5 minute walks

There is also public access at Burkes Beach Rd and there is a little tidal creek that feeds into the surf there. You’ll have to walk about 200 yds from your car.

If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.

Thank you both for your suggestions. I should be able to spend more time soaking a bait and less time finding a place to fish. I had seen the inlet at Burkes Beach and wondered if there might be parking. Will probably check it out.

Fished Burkes Beach for about 4 hours on Friday. Caught a few stingray and a handful of whiting. Would have liked a redfish but enjoyed it and had great weather.
