Hilton Head Surf opportunities

Hey guys we’re heading to Hilton Head in a couple weekends with some friends and I’m hoping to get a little fishing time in. Never been down that way just wondering if there were any particular areas of the island with more productive surf than others. Will most likely just take a rod to chuck bucktails and stingsilvers but may bring a shark rod to play with one night. If there’s any decent sound access may bring a smaller rod to try for a few flatties and reds.

Thanks for any and all insight.

I fish to leave the rest of the world behind. I fish because I respect the fish. I fish because it’s in my DNA.

I’d bring some bait rigs for the surf. Everything eats shrimp. Cant help you on places to fish on HH. You’ll have no shortage of sharks.

yeah shrimps always a pretty safe bet haha. hopefully a couple sharks will come out to play that evening as many as have been caught this year

I use shrimp to catch a whiting or bluefish, then cut that up for bait.

If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.

They don’t like you targeting sharks on the beach front itself. Bad for business. You can catch flounder and small reds near the rock jetties on the last of the incoming to first of the outgoing. mud minnows or shrimp. wade out and toss a simple 2-2oz knocker rig right up against the edge of the rocks. just keep working out as deep as you can comfortably go. I have seen guys take a minnow bucket out with them to save wading back and forth to rebait. Saw a few caught this way last week when I was down there. And lots and lots of baby sharks and stingrays.

All things being equal, I would rather be on the water.

You can fish for sharks just don’t make a big deal out of it.
We all know the water is full of them.
Doesn’t take crazy looking tackle either.

Look totally surprised when you land it.

A guy on Fripp landed a 5 ft plus BlackTip last weekend with regular surf tackle. The beer in hand and wife and kid made it just another family outing.

Sounds good y’all. Definitely have no intention of making a spectacle of it and planning for it to be a night outing and I won’t be rocking a 9/0 penn or anything haha.

Will have to play with the jetty idea that morning!

Didn’t realize they actually had it prohibited with fines etc. Well that really sucks! Flounder & Reds it is…
