HMS Survey

Just recieved a letter in the mail today, my vessel has been selected to conduct a telephone survey for the HMS. Has anyone else recieved this? Are you going to participate? Will it help save our fishing? Any thoughts will be shared. :sunglasses::smiley:

Got one as well thoughts?

I got mine today. Cant wait to ask them what a yellowfin tuna looks like and if they have seen any.

Got one also. Don’t tell them you’r not catching fish, they will say we over fished… well, if you say you’r catching limits they will say you’r going to over fish the ocean. I’ll just tell the truth.

I got one too.

If you don’t tell the truth, then you are part of the problem. I got one myself and I will answer it truthfully.

i got mine too,i think i am going to tell them,do to the high gas prices i have not been able to go this year…

any info you say will be twisted to hurt us…

A “good” captain also knows the limitations of his vessel.

Sorry skinneej, I forgot to put the smilie on my post. Looks like they must have sent out thousands of them.

I think they sent one to whoever bought a hms permit.

You have to be careful with this crowd though... A missing smiley could cost us the tuna fishery!

The bottom line is that nobody in SC or NC really caught any yellowfins this year. Maybe it was a fluke, or weather, or maybe it was a real issue that needs to be addressed. I hate restrictions if they don’t make sense, but I would hate to ignore a real problem as well as the consequences are extreme. I’m just glad that these guys are actually putting some money together to do a phone survey. They pulled grouper and snapper numbers out of a magic hat and people complained that they were never asked about what they caught. Now that they are asking, it would be nice to see some real data.

If the fishery needs help, then help it. It doesn’t do us any good to lie to try to skew the survey.

I’m part of this club also …

Got my letter today.

WOW! I thought I was special when I received my letter. I will answer honestley.

Guess it’s only fitting that I tell HMS surveyors about the two bonitos we caught all season. :face_with_head_bandage:

S’ville Angler
“E-Sea Living”
2870 Pursuit w/twin 225 Yamahas

what?! and skew the atlantic bonito total upward, when you were really just depleting the stocks of the endagered Little tunny, which makes excellent bottom bait.

they should just do the survey on line. what a collossal waste of taxpayer money. either that or send the questions ahead so everyone can have answers prepared.

The letter is actually a hoax from Edisto Fisher…

He is trying to figure out is catching all the tuna so he can follow them out next time there is a tuna bite.

Come on now skinnee, I think you'r being a little melodramatic. If a little use of satire is going to shut down fishing, it's all over anyway. But absolutely on everything else you said. About all I do is bottom fish anyway. I'm going to try to get them some data Saturday:smiley::smiley::smiley:.

I was just kidding about the smiley, but enjoy your bottom fishing while it lasts. It will be shut down before the pelagic stuff. Expect a complete closure of bottom fishing for all species pretty soon. You heard it here first.
