Hog Doggin' in S IN!

I know it’s not a fishing post but there are more people on this thread that know me so here it goes-

I’ve kind of asked around on here before about wanting to tag along on a hog dog hunt sometime (it’s a big item on my bucket list!!). I’ve stand hunted them and spot/stalked them several times over the last 10-12 years in SC with some success. Ross has put up with me always asking about hog hunting every time we’re down there and has even got me out a couple of times.

I also knew that we had feral hogs in S. Indiana but until a couple of years ago trying to find someplace to actually get permission to hunt them was an exercise in futility.

Then through a friend of a friend of a friend…well you know how that goes …I was able to get permission from a fellow Purdue grad who had to have sat in some of the same Forestry classes at Purdue in the late 70’s that I was also taking, along with working summers for a farmer just down the road from my house that took him right by our place. Talk about a small world when we started comparing notes!

Anyway, he’s got a lot of river bottom ground mixed in cropland and CRP in S. IN. that the hogs have been running off and on depending on what the crop rotation is (they seem to like the cornfields much better than the beans!). I’ve seen plenty of sign, had some glimpses of them running through but so far haven’t been at the right place at the right time. Even set up a couple of different feeders to help out however our baiting regs are pretty strict so if anything else is in season then the feeders are out Thanks to Capt Rick for some of those feeder plans and pics!!!

I had mentioned hunting with dogs once last year when I was down there (still a 3.5 hour one way drive for me) and he said he’d have to check into it. I just got an email from him and he’s got somebody lined up this coming Sat to give it a try.

Man am I stoked!!!

I don’t have what I would call a good “pig sticker” but I’m betting I can come up something

Any suggestions from anyone
