Hopefully my wife likes my Woodie

Over the past several years I have restored several old boats. One including my pride and joy, a 1973 mako. I have always wanted a wood strip boat ever since I rode in my grandads as a little boy. Well, believe or not, I found the same exact boat that he had 30 years ago. Although Its not the same one, It’s exactly as I remember as a kid. With that said, It appears to be in great condition. The Keel on the bottom is a little soft but should be a simple fix. Other than what you see, I would like to put the white calk between the boards like the old chris crafts. If anyone has any tips of suggestions, please dont hessitate to share. The boat is a 1949 Partee from Tenn…

Very Nice

Woodfloats?

Sweet boat, is not the words for it. Beautiful. Keep us posted on the progress.

Nice find! Can remember learing to ski behind one one in the early 50s
Yours is in much better shape as that one was!

Man, that’s even cooler than your gigging rig! You must be livin’ right!!!

nice boat david. what a good find. not to keep bugging you but how about the title for the mfg? trying to sell it and it makes it easier with title so that they can put a motor on it. thanks.

Hey Coolbreeze…Take a pic of the vin and 4 pics of the boat and you can go to DNR and have it registered. 45.00 bucks to register it and then if there are back taxes, those would have to be paid i believe. Shouldn’t be much on a 100.00 boat though

Wow

Very cool!! Don’t miss this http://www.woodenboatshow.com/

Thanks for the website Palmer, and I will deff. be at the boat show Reelescape. I just hate that it’s 6 months away. Until then though, I dont want to jump in over my head. I know that the boat floats and handles well enough for me to use as is. I dont wan’t to change to much on it other than the stripping of the bottom and the keel replace. I think it would be nice to darken some of the wood but I may hold off to get some expert advice on that.

That lettering is kind of an eyesore to me. Other than that very cool boat.

YOU bought something that doesn’t need to be worked over and fiddled with?!?! Must be sentimental! Good for you. Its a beautiful boat and I hope you enjoy the heck out of it! Thats just an era of boat you’ll never see again. Classic beauty.

I do agree with jws. Lettering is an insult. I’m sure you’re all over that, though! Congrats on the purchase.

Trailer is awesome, too!

LOL…If you saw the previouse owner you would understand the eye sore lettering…I’ve already taken the letters off and coming up with some new. Im thinking of going with the gold leaf with a red outline kind of like the old fire trucks…

Any chance you could use Holly instead of caulk kind of like the way they do the sole in better sail boats? I used to work for Morgan Yacht and got pretty creative doing custom woodwork for people. By the way my pride and joy is a 74 Mako 23. Beautiful boat!!

I can see it with a poling platform :sunglasses:

I do marine woodworking. Feel free to ask any questions. If i dont know the answer, my boss certainly will. I would probably use polysulfide between the boards. Have you priced gold leaf lettering? you may decide to go w imitation gold leaf once you do.
