When do you guys call it on heading out? I pretty much call it when I have to wear enough clothes that I cant really move around the boat safely.
We can fish year round. Right now is just the start of our best time of year IMO.

I’ve never called it because it’s too cold… Even if it’s in the 30’s during the day, some long johns jeans, undershirt sweater, jacket, hat’s gloves boots 2 pairs of socks and fish all day…
Thermoses are your friend for cold weather… I must have 10 of them and I’ll fill them with hot drinks and take with me.
Used to use them diving in the winter - hot water in the wetsuit before/between dives to keep it comfy.

Never too cold…just too windy

Preach it from the hill brother! Well maybe too cold once in a few years, but not too often.
This will be my second winter here fishing, totally took advantage of it last year being a first time boater. Now having a little idea of what I’m doing, the idea of launches not being over crowded and wing nuts in their 24 foot cruisers running wide open yards away from me is very appealing! Long johns, nice jacket and a buff for your neck and face is all you need, the winds will be the only thing keeping me away!,
I quadruple that

There is no such thing as too cold. Last winter, on more than one occasion, I had to splash a little salt water on my pop up cleats because they were frozen in the down position.
I agree on the too windy statements.
This time of year is the right time to carry an extra set of clothes with you.
It’s also the right time of year to start wearing your life jacket at all times. When the water gets cold, it makes it really tough to swim or climb back into the boat.
I don’t mean to sound preachy about the extra set of clothes and wearing your PFD, but it could save your life.

You guys are definitely right. There gets to be a point though where it just gets to be a hassle on some of the coldest days I think. Of course how cold you are depends heavily on how many fish your catching.
When the water pump pee hole keeps freezing up.
These days there is no need to “bulk up” too much. There is some pretty good technical clothing on the market to take advantage of.
Honestly…a layer of UnderArmour, a long sleeve T-shirt, a sweat shirt (maybe with a hood), a jacket, a pair of jeans (insulated), and a good rain suit (Grundens/Helly Hansen) will keep you comfortable on the worst days and still give you excellent flexibility. Utilizing the above combination (in the past, just north in the other Carolina) I have done everything from casting to trout, fly fished solo from the bow of my bay boat, and fished standup for bluefins.
There is no need to feel you have to dress and look like Santa Clause to go fishing.
When the creek water starts freezing, then it would be too cold.

now, everyone stop fishing now. I will keep you informed

As a reformed yankee striper fisherman - it never gets too cold here.
But it does get too hot. I don’t fish inshore much during the summer months.
Where I fish in the winter - one can fish all day and not see another boat for hours on end. Its nice.
