I have caught dolphin at Y73 in June.

Best advice, hitch a ride. there are plenty of people who will take you out there.

You have a 20 ft 4 inch boat my boat is 19 ft 10 inch boat. I am sure i can go just need to pick my days. I dont mind going with someone else but I go more in the middle of the week.

sshaarda only advised you to hitch a ride since you are worried about 30 miles. Yes they are as close as the Y73 in the heat of the summer, but late April-June is the best time to catch them and at that time of the year expect to go 50-60 miles.

Thanks, just curious renting a house in edisto in june.

I do have to pick my days with my boat. I am sorry if you thought my comment was directed toward your boat size. It wasn't. It was directed to your comment about not wanting to go to 100' to catch dolphin. That is why I said you may want to ask someone else for a ride. Fortunately for people like us, there are plenty of good people on this site with larger boats who like to have extra crew.

All the best fishing this summer while at Edisto. Tight Lines!

No worries, i dont know many people in charleston because i live in charlotte, nc and am new to the site. I take any insight into fishing as a way to grow my knowledge base. I grew up fishing in fl where i am from. Flats fishing in and around boca grand is where most of my saltwater knowledge is from. Fished a lot offshore in nc with family friend when i was a kid. I want to gain as my knowledge from this site before hitting in hard this spring and summer.

Similar backgrounds. I grew up in Naples Florida and fished the bay for mangrove snapper and the weed areas for trout. I learned a lot from people on this site and found many who were willing to share their knowledge while fishing in their larger boats.

I now take mine offshore when I don’t have an offer on a larger ride or when I just want to captain. Let me know if I can help.

Get to know people on this site. In June there will be someone fishing everyday that is nice enough for your boat. Find someone to follow/buddy boat with. I know I prefer to be the captain so this is a good option.
In late April and May, this site will explode with information.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the insight. I read this forum everyday for that reason. We are spending june 8th through june 16th in edisto i will go everyday the weather is right if possible.

The wife and I had 2 nice slingers (~15#) at the 60 reef in June this past summer. Was a nice surprise.

I have spotter them around floating trash in as little as 55ft. That was in mid summer. I have caught a few slingers in less than 60ft when I lived in NC, but that was few and far between. May want to rethink your target fish and tactics and maybe you might get lucky and boat a Mahi. Or like sshaarda said see if you can find a ride.

It’s my second favorite table fare. Wahoo is number one but I know I got to hit the stream for that.

Cltdeer, pick your days right my friend. i have just about seen it all out there on my shady 18’ grady. heck of a boat until 4’+ seas start rolling. have been as far as 1200’(told by another boat since our gps quit at 550’) and ran out of fuel by the beach at edisto. Also have been in a thunderstorm 40mi out. i have all precautionary safety equip onboard at all times. with that being said, you can do it. like the rest, i would suggest experience on bigger boats first.
