How will this storm affect surf fishing?

With the storms here off the coast, how do you think this will affect the fishing conditions in the surf? Will it get better or will it fall flat? Opinions?

I was wondering the same thing, we’ll be in Edisto for a week Saturday. We’ll be fishing every day rain or shine and will post results is the Edisto forum by early next week.

The strong currents associated with storms often make it difficult for fish to find your bait, assuming you are able to keep it where you want it in the first place. The wind can also skunk up your casting pretty bad. That said, there are no absolutes in fishing. It’s a big ocean and something is biting somewhere.

A bad day of fishing beats a good day of work anytime.

Hoping to head down that way next weekend in search of some big reds and sharks. Bringing the big lead just in case!

I fish to leave the rest of the world behind. I fish because I respect the fish. I fish because it’s in my DNA.

x2 if I was guessing the bait will blow back in quickly today from current and the wind is so strong it will its going to help facilitate that. If you use mono its also thicker than braid and will also get caught in the wind with its thicker diameter and would also contribute to that. With the extreme high tides the water will also be dirty from pulling back all the stuff into the water when the tide goes back out. Its also tuff for fish to fight the current and if I was guessing they have moved to deeper water to avoid that. With all that said , Its allot of guessing and like Lucid said ya never know till ya go, somebody could be tearing it up right now. I think its safe to say sat is shut down winds 20-30 knots but if I was going to take a shot at it, which Im not, Sun the winds calm down to light and variable and would be your best chance, good luck folks, good question.

Supposed to be nice next week once the big blow is gone. Should level out by mid week. You might be pleasantly surprised. Wish I could have my feet in the sand next week.

…fishing conditions? Conditions wil be bad. I’ll say the surf will be jacked up untill Wed. or so. But, fish still gotta eat. So go for it, if you can find away to hold bottom you never know, could be EPIC! Right now my sources at both Folly and IOP are reporting 3’-5’ waves with some to 6’. As of 5:00pm the rip is not horrible. But getting away from the waves will be difficult. Sat. and Sun. wil be almost unfishable. Plus you might get a little wet. The rain will drop the salinity, pushing fish out of the surf zone. I may go Thursday after work, might be okay buy then. Maybe if you got out on a pier? [:I]

I’m going to try casting off my back porch I think I’ve seen a few reds tailing by the swing set, and a nice trough is starting to form along my fence line that could be productive, its been dumping here in Mt pleasant since 10 0’clock last night non stop, but if you folks head out send us a report and let us know how its going:smiley: Maybe a few pics.

The ditch that drains one side of our neighborhood is behind my back yard fence. It drains down to the Ashley. It’s running over. Think I might toss some artificials back there !

Ya know, it must be nice living in Neverneverland. Remind me to come visit you, when I need a break from reality.

I am a little stumped on which bait to to deploy, always heard to use whats running and right now the frogs are thick in the backyard, getting pushed out of the swamp thats steadily rising, do you hook them through the lips or in the back, and shall I float them under a bobber or bottom fish with them? Which reminds me of a short story-went fishing in Georgetown a few years back with a buddy on his Uncles Plantation, we caught a few bass and threw them in the cooler, a little later we went to retrieve a beer and low and behold one of the bass threw up a small mouse, the rest of the day every time we took a sip of our beer all we could think about was the lovely regergatated mouse floating in our cooler:smiley:

When in doubt…throw a spinner bait!

Walked to the pond a bit ago, cabin fever, 10th cast. Started raining AGAIN!

What complex is that? Looks familiar haha

We are at Edisto now using squid, shrimp, mullet chunks. Some bites here and there, but only one whiting so far caught on shrimp. That was in the surf, not bad conditions at low tide, using 3oz to hold to the bottom. Looking forward to better conditions as the week progresses!

The troughs have been scoured out and defined nicely by all the swell energy over the past several days. gonna be good later this week at some of your favorite sloughs and holes. if they are still there that is and not down the beach somewhere else. hope everyone dries out well.

Will be heading out this weekend. Most like Sunday morning to fish the surf on Folly and down towards the inlet. Will report back with updates.
