Hunting Island

We’re heading to Hunting Island State Park where my wife intends to sit in a chair on the front beach and read a book, That’s too boring for me so I thought of amusing myself with a little surf fishing. Any part of the beach better than others? What can I expect to catch? Will the bite be any good on an outgoing tide? Thanks for any advice you can offer.

I am certainly no expert on this subject, I have seen people catching small sharks off of the beach in the surf but I have never tried this. I have fished the lagoon on the south part of the island and had good success walking the bank. I’ve caught plenty of trout, reds, and a few flounder. I’ve had luck fishing artificial gulps and live bait in there.

“Now I’m knee deep in the water somewhere, got the blue sky breeze blowin wind through my hair, only worry in the world is the tide gonna reach my chair.”

Bring a lawn chair and a cooler and fish in the lagoon. Reds, trout and flounder in abundance. Get some mud minnows and live shrimp and have at it!

Is the lagoon where the pier is at or the inlet to the side of it?

We do not rise to the occassion…but fall to the level of our training

Lagoon is on the south side of the island. The park rangers will give you directions if you can’t find it.
