thinking of taking a trip up there for a few days and drag the yak up to the jetty. Anyone done this? Curious about the flounder bite in the creeks compared to the jetty area. Any places to launch closer to the campground?
It’s a personal choice, but I don’t kayak the jetties except in winter. You might be ok if you’re lucky enough to catch a lee on the outside of the South jetty, but the traffic inside the jetties is godawful - charter boats, jet skiis, parasail boats, head boats, drunk boaters on vacation, etc etc. The recent buzz on the Georgetown forum was a john boat that got swamped at the jetties by a parasail boat. The consensus seemed to be the john boat didn’t have any business being out there. Go figure…
I fish the creeks behind Huntington a good bit. Haven’t heard much about flounder lately, but the redfish and trout bite has been decent, particularly early. I had a 19" & 21" trout this morning about sunrise. Missed a couple others.
There are a couple decent kayak launches on the marsh. Oyster Landing is about one mile north of the entrance to Huntington, down a little dirt road. There’s a sign that says “Oyster Recycling Station”. Morris Landing in on Hwy 17 Business, beside the Hot Fish Club. If you’re not careful at Morris, you can get stuck for awhile at low tide. Otherwise, it’s a good spot.

Sounds the like the starting of another coastal event. WOuld do it if we had a few people to go with.
thanks a bunch cracker. just the info I was looking for.
OysterCracker, enjoyed fishing with you last spring!..watch out for this guy!..if you end up fishing with him and you forget to bring your camera…well…he tends to catch a lot of fish, plus he doesn’t let you forget it!
Mud
Hey Mud -
It was my pleasure. When you gonna get up this way again? I still need some lessons on that little flat. Fished it a couple hours yesterday on a good tide but nothing, not even a tail showing.
Mr CutMullet - I always enjoy watchin’ a professional at work. If you make it up this way and want some company, email me at
OCDUDE at SC dot RR dot COM.

Cutmullet, let me know if you have plans for this trip…I am interested…Mud still needs to give me a flyfishing lesson ! …congrats on the 27" er !!
All right Murray, I got a site for Sept. 5&6th. Low tide is early. Hopefully we can meet up with oystercracker and he can put us on some fried flounder. If not we can hit the crab leg buffet:stuck_out_tongue:
Hey Mud …you got any of them flies left ?
Oyster, doesn’t look like I’ll be able to make it back up there until next spring…lets keep in touch.
norm, I’ll send some flies up with cut.

Mud, Murray, Cracker… any ya’ll gonna make it? I planning on fishing Friday afternoon and Saturday (and definetly going for the crab buffet Sat. night). Going to that ldging cracker talked about.
Depends on Hanna…email your site.

quote:I was lookin' forward to it until Hanna showed up. Friday looks nasty regardless of the final track. The weekend depends on how big a mess is left behind to clean up. Based on current projected path, I think there's a reasonable chance the state park will clear out the campground on Thursday and lock the gates. If you're coming, you better check with 'em first. If you decide to come on up, email me your campsite number. I'll try to run by even if I can't get out to fish. ~OC~
any ya'll gonna make it?
cutmullet’s comp. is down and he’s asked me to pass some info along to ya. Says he’s thinking about canceling the trip to Huntington as well due to a little stormy weather…what a wus.
Anyway, says he may be internet clean for a few weeks so no e-mail, cf.com, porn or anything…guess he’s ticked off the cable company or sumthin!

Thanks, Beerbuzz - tell cutmullet he made a wise choice. Hanna looks like a non-event, but Friday evening and Saturday am will probably be messy up this way. I understand that the Gov’s voluntary evac triggered Huntington Bch and MB state parks to empty the campgrounds, but I haven’t seen an official announcement. Besides, small bluefish have moved into MI in force. I netted some nice fm early this morning, then spent several hours feeding 'em to the blues.

Cracker- I’m going to try again this weekend, Friday afternoon and Saturday. You gonna be around?
Cutmullet - I can’t make it. I’m in NC this week and probably most of next week. Put a big hurtin’ on 'em. Let me know if you need any directions. I’ll be watching for a trip report.
