Hurricane Matthew

I just wanted to say good luck and Godspeed to you all as we weather this storm. I enjoy reading your posts and seeing photos of your fishing trips.
I hope that your property damage is minimal. If you are not experienced with a chainsaw, for goodness sake, don’t try to use one. Most of the fatalities from Hurricane Hugo were accidents involving chainsaws, power lines, trees, ladders, etc.
Hopefully, we’ll be able to salvage some of the fall fishing season after the clean up.
Be Safe !

You be safe to Mr. Taylor! Very good advice you have given.

Hope you and your family are safe as well Mr. Taylor. God Bless Sir. Regarding fishing. Grace told me to tell you,it ain’t over, till it’s over.

I hope everyone made it through with little to no serious injuries or damage.

Also looking forward to get out this week and find what troughs were made/changed on the beach. Bite should be good

Anyone been out yet after the storm? I went to IOP to gather shells with the kiddos on Monday. Lots of sand gone from the dunes, and didn’t see any signs of bars/troughs where I happened to be. Might be time for me to take the bike down there to cover more ground.

I was out yesterday for about an hour just to scout a little. Where were you walking? I was at 4th on the IOP and it was rough out there. Stepped on a cactus to get down off the access haha so that hurt, but the tide was coming in and pulling hard. couldn’t keep the weights in place. Was going to try and get out again tomorrow in my usual spot but won’t be able to due to Daddy duties with my girls.

In past years when storms have brought significant dune erosion the sand that was on the dunes or above the typical high tide line tends to wash out and smooth out the beach and fill in the troughs. Saw this a couple years ago particularly around Breach Inlet. My experience has been it takes a few “normal” tide cycles to dig out the troughs again. Only been doing this for a few years, so someone with more experience can probably provide better insight into when the troughs will return. Going to scout some of my regular spots on IOP this weekend. Will report what I see, unless someone gets out there and reports before then.

I’m going to give it a shot this weekend. Extreme high tides, post hurricane, full moon and NE winds usually not so good for me. I’m not expecting a whole lot of fish, if any. Sort of the perfect storm of bad conditions. With the season winding down I will take every opportunity I can get and hope for the best. Grace has been training-walking, and hoping to join daddy. I like what Grace and Hays posted, seems to make allot of sense. Good luck to all, somebody will get on um.

Makes sense about taking a little time for the normal tides to do their job.

I was around 21st/22nd and didn’t see much. Though the surfers were having fun.
