A friend of mine gave my son his old dive equipment that he hasn’t used since the late 90s.
My son has new regulators, BCD, mask and fins. He is mainly wanting to use the cylinder (tank) but it hasn’t been tested since 1995 and was originaly manufactured in 1989. Can this tank still be tested or is it too old ?
Most dive shops won’t fill anything 89 or less even if it passes hydro… and I’m assuming that if they won’t fill it they won’t do the vis inspection or send it to have hydro done. There’s a place I think on Ashley Phosphate that does hydro’s on all kinds of cylinders you might start there, or take it to what ever dive shop he would be getting his fills from to see if they would even fill it.

I’ve been told the service life of an aluminum cylinder should be about 15 years where a steel cylinder is 40 years. I bought 3 120 CUF steel cylinders that I will hopefully never have to worry about.
