I know where the BIG fish are!'

Be Advised: Mary Lee(16.5ft/3,600lbs. white shark) returns to the beaches of S.C.
She is very near shore between Edisto Beach and Hunting Island State Park just outside the mouth of Morgan Black Creek.

Who’s in?

Looks like Mary Lee is heading up to Whale Branch today.

No kidding, she’s almost as big as your or my boat. I’d love to see her…maybe she’ll head to our harbor in a few days.

Two pygmy sperm whales have beached and died in that general area recently. No signs of predation on them but it’s interesting that they are in the same area. I think I saw where great whites are listed as their predators.

That’s a BIG GIRL!!

She must be craving monkeys from Morgan island…

That being said, GW’s have claimed victims in Charleston harbor before…

I guess the old saying that they are more scared of you than you are of them…does not apply here.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I would love to see her…preferably from a boat bigger than mine.

Begs the question as to how many more big GW’s are actually swimming around off our coast. I sincerely doubt that Ocearch just happened to catch and tag the only one that has a taste for people from Ohio

Hopefully if some numb nuts happen to come across her he doesn’t do something stupid like that captain up in NC with the big tiger shark.

Here’s her capture if you haven’t seen it:

I bet she has 1 big appetite…part of me would love to see her, then the smart side says no i would rather not…

I was down there Sunday evening shrimping just a few miles from there. I bet she was following one of the shrimp boats around, probably eating some of those smaller sharks that follow them on a daily basis.

I found #3 on Skinnee’s list to be of intrest. “Killed while wading ashore from a capsized vessel in Mount Pleasant”

Wonder how shallow he was when he was attacked?
That would really suck to swim in from a capsized boat only to get eaten when you’re almost back on land.

That being said, I’ll be in Edisto 10 days over the Thanksgiving Holiday and we’re planning on getting some dives in. Hopefully we don’t meet up with her.

When she was here last year I heard some jerks put a bounty on her. Hope no one is stupid enough to intentionally kill this fish. SC doesn’t need any more bad PR.

One could only hope!!

Crew member of a pilot boat

ca. 1840

Unconfirmed, probably a Great white shark

Killed while treading water awaiting rescue after being accidentally thrown overboard in Charleston Harbor, Charleston County, South Carolina. Witnesses estimated the shark to be 25 feet (8 m) long.

25’ Great White in the harbor? I’m going to stick to swimming in pools. Even if this was almost 175 years ago.

They are protected. That bounty wouldn't go very far towards the fines.
