I would love to see this happen and have seen his name mentioned prior to this. The only time Tommy Bowden was winning was when he had Rich Rod by his side. I really like Shawn Elliott and the effort he is putting in to bring energy to the team, but the stretch of games ahead of him is brutal and I don’t see any way he wins enough to survive. I don’t know the likelihood of him staying on as an assistant, but I do like the guy.

From an article I read earlier the main search/wish list is now 3: Herman, Smart and Fuente

Does Smart want to leave the good thing he’s got going to do a total rebuild job? Can he transition from a coordinator to a HC/CEO?

Herman is a Big10 guy. Would he bolt for the first job to open in that conference? Maryland is also interested in him and big money is being spent to bring in someone who can make them relevant.

Fuente is going to be the hottest name if Memphis keeps winning. Going to be a lot of schools after him at season’s end. Strike while you can there.

Is Rich Rod unhappy in Arizona? PAC12 is his style of football.

I dont like Rich rod. just don’t. But that means USC will probably go after him.
I have my money on JF. He has Memphis on the move and plays the style of football I like.

You can pick a name and you will find some writer out there that has written the “why” and “why nots”. There is way more money in carolina now, then when they hired HBC. So I dont think money will be an issue.

I’ve heard Rich Rod to VT when they oust Beamer, also. If Carolina is going to get a hot hire, they better do it before the carousel really winds up, or they will be stuck with a guy like Shawn Elliott. It may be a good thing in the long run, though.

Carolina is in a quandary. It’s in their genes to hire an established big name fix it quick coach, but after just being burned by Spurrier, and Lispy before him, I’m thinking they will move away from that option. On the other end of the scale are the young up and coming coachs, and the hot OC from a big school. We really don’t need to talk about Sparky and Brad now do we?

So what are we left with? A middle aged coach with a track record. Someone who could settle and potentially be there for a long time. Someone who doesn’t mind living in a place like Columbia and managing a historically bad team. I think Rich Rod is a perfect fit. Great football mind. He’s done well everywhere except Micigan (I think he was just overwhelmed there). Apickett hit the nail on the head. Bowden’s 2 glory years where when RR was running his offense. I wouldn’t be pizzed if my team was looking for a coach and RR was the choice.

Who qualifies to put out that dumpster fire? Or will only a big name do? Maybe Saban will come since Sakkerliner has such a storied tradition. I bet he’d get all excited about the intro to 2001, fire extinguishers and a chicken on a PVC sewer pipe goalpost.

Sakkerliner needs to quit looking for the quick fix and focus on building something that can be sustained for the long haul. That means younger and energetic.
