Today was a first time experience for my friend and I. We put in of Folly beach and went about a mile offshore. We caught a hand full of Atlantic Sharpnose and saw multiple bait balls being smashed by what I could only think were big blues and Spanish. Needless to say definitely doing it again some time soon.
If you can freeline menhaden being your yak and throw small spoons or gotchas you will tear up the blues and spanish.
Also, what model hobie is that? I am looking for one that can hold my large ass (6 4 280) so I can actually do exact thing you were doing.
Its an Outback. Plenty stable but for the price there have been a few Pro Anglers pop up for sale here locally.
yak fishing from the beach is the blast! if you can manage to snag a few big menhaden and drift them live you stand a chance at kings, tarpon, bull reds, and of course…bigger sharks lol. ive never gotten the chance to battle a silver torpedo, but so far my buddy and i have landed (as good as you can from the yak anyways) an estimated 6.5 foot blacktip. unedited gopro video was 27 minutes and he went for a mile plus long sleigh ride in the process!
