Just wondering?..When you catch one, how do you rate it on the eating scale:question:
I think the are overrated compared to some other species but just my opinion…still good tho!

I’m planning on releasing one this year that I catch… Usually don’t catch very many but I think I’ll enjoy watching one swim away!

Go to the Boat House Restaurant on Hilton Head and eat one of their Cobia dinners and you won’t release many!
If it’s a legal fish, I gut before putting on ice. I find them a bit strong if not bled. Good table fare.
Edit, I gut a lot of bigger fish before icing down. Even Dolphin if bite permits.

Glenn - you just catch the fish and call me - I’ll take care of the rest. I rate cobia right behind wahoo.

Charlie’s on New Orleans Rd in HHI has a grilled cobia entree that is as good as any fish I’ve ever eaten.
If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.
Usually net them and release, keep one a year. I don’t have a need to keep more than that in a season. I just want some pictures to bragg ha!

I’m gonna gut the next one before I ice it down…That will probably help with the strong taste I have experienced.
Have never eaten Cobia in a restaurant…will have to try Boat House or Charlie’s.
Let’s go fishing Blair…I will be down all next week if nothing comes up to change it:stuck_out_tongue:.
Thanks,

I don’t have much experience w/ the blue water fishes, but cobia is HARD to beat in my opinion. Maybe a fresh flounder, like within a few hours of being caught fresh flounder. Cobia is pretty fantastic IMO.

I’ll take a sheepshead over a Cobia or a flounder any day…

All 3 are very good. I’m all for catch and release…unless they taste good!
