If you see a green jon boat with a 25 yamaha

Googan with a gun.

Brandishing a firearm is illegal. Let’s all remember to get boat numbers, or better a picture so we can report public stupidity to proper authorities.

Brandishing- means to display, show, wave, or exhibit the firearm in a manner which another person might find threatening.

South Carolina Section 16-23-410:

Unlawful to present or point loaded or unloaded firearm at another person; felony; must be fined or imprisoned not more than 5 years.

You never know when you might need one, hence why you should carry one. I carry my glock on the boat and its never rusted. I even had it get wet a bit. I clean it and change out the ammo once a month and I fish 1 or 2 days a week.

I put my little P22 in the boat with me, just incase I need to pew pew pew on somebodys ass. lol I’m about the most laid back guy around. I have no bad intentions, and I stay away from conflicts, but people are crazy these days. Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Report registration numbers, description of vessel to DNR,and let them do the dangerous work. This will then allow the fool to explain to a judge what took place.

I’ve used one to subdue a big shark … Never know. I carry one with me every trip. Never once needed it for protection from another human, but better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

I would never pull my gun unless I thought my life or someone elses life that was with me was in danger. I don't carry mine thinking I'm a cowboy. Its for protection only. I don't show it off, I don't use it to warn anybody. Not like in the movies where you pull it out and chamber one then say something slick. Nope, if you don't have one in the chamber from the get go, you're behind the ball. I'm big on gun safety and respecting them. I hope everyone else is the same. The only reason id pull my gun is if I needed to fire it. And I hope that never happens. But with the way the world is going now days, you never know if or when you'll need it. Plus Putting your pistol in your boat takes it out of your truck at the ramp. How many countless stories have you heard about someones gun getting stolen out of their car? Do you think that gun is in the hands of a law abiding citizen? If you're still not convinced about having a gun on your boat, ask Cracker Larry about being hijacked.

I’m assuming he must be a democrat. I have nothing to be “insecure” about.

My mako isn’t nice enough to get hijacked. lol I mention that because someone tried Hijacked Cracker Larrys boat once. Luckily he was able to protect the lives of his self and crew with a Smith and Wesson. While Charleston is a great place and is full of friendly people, it does have its bad side as well. I don’t make it a point to carry my gun with me in the boat, but id rather not leave it in the truck. I’ve never had any bad encounters with anyone on the water. Just like I’ve never had a boat sink while I’m in it, but I always have my life jacket and wood plugs just in case.

I carry a gun on the boat. Don’t think I’ll ever have to use it, but you just never know these days. I also keep fire extinguishers in my kitchen/boats. Don’t think I’ll use them either, but I like to have them in case of an emergency.

so, do you keep the devils right hand in a holster on your hip while out in the boat?

If not, where do you keep one that kids cant get their hands on?

If hidden safely away, how quickly could you retrieve it “in case of that emergency”?

Cracker has traveled all over in his sailboat. That is one application where having a firearm on board is understandable. I just dont understand the need to be straped to go out for a few hours to catch channel bass or to drive to work or the grocery store. Comparing saftey devices to firearms is laughable IMO. It’s apples to oranges…

My firearm is a safety device, IMO. But to each their own.

I have a friend (at that time might have been 70 year old) that HATED guns!!! On day walking out of his office in mid-town Savannah he got robbed and hit in the head a couple of times. This was in broad day light. Again, this guy did nothing but talk down gun ownership. The next day he was at the LGS buying a handgun and applying for a carry permit.

My wife is OK with guns but does not want to touch them (???) but every time I walk the dog at night in our neighborhood she ask if I have my cell phone and my gun. And we live in a nice trouble free area.

I do not carry a gun when I am fishing inshore but when I head offshore or travel north or south of Savannah by boat I do have a stainless steel handgun with me and I know that stainless will rust.

I carry almost everywhere that is legal. Hope I never have to use it, but if I do, its there.

as others have said, never had to have a life jacket either, but I want one nearby.

Yes, most of this half of the world anyway. Mrs. Cracker and I did have an incident once with pirates/thieves in the Bahamas that required a Stoner carbine to resolve, but the hijacking story mentioned above happened in Savannah.

This was in the early 1980s and I was running charter boats. Got a call one night from a very Hispanic guy, didn’t speak much English, My Spanish is poor but I understand a lot of words. I got pescado, manana, dos manos, que mas, que hora. I needed the trip and was free, called my mate, a beautiful girl who worked with me for years. Never seen a man or fish she couldn’t handle. We’d been through a lot together, I loved her and knew her like my wife. We didn’t even have to talk, we just had to look at each other to know our thoughts.

The charter shows up on time, in a taxi and 2 young Hispanic men get out. Neither were really dressed for fishing, both were carrying black duffles that didn’t really look like fishing gear. They paid cash up front. Here’s your sign!

Got them settled aboard, gave the safety speech, tried to figure out what they wanted to do. Ran out Wassaw sound to the ocean, and KC reef. Stopped the boat, went down to the cockpit and asked them if they wanted to troll, or bottom fish, or what, in my bad Spanish and their worse English.

One of them thrusts a piece of paper at me with typed Lat/Lon numbers and said we go here. I looked at them and said no we aren’t. One of them them grabs my mate by the hair and pulls out a long knife and holds it to her neck. The other ones says I take them there or they cut our throats. Uh-huh. Look my mate in the eyes and they told me to shoot this SOB. I told her to consider it done.

I tell the man, OK, no p
