Illegally parked vehicles

Curious, how many of you have arrived at the boat ramp only to find regular vehicles parked in boat trailer only parking? Per the Charleston County rule book, on weekends and holidays, boat & trailer parking spaces are only for boat trailers! Are you as frustrated about this as I am? If so, let you voices be heard! I am attaching the phone numbers to the county parks and services mangers, so give them a call and voice your concerns! I know that there have been plenty of topics about boat ramps over the years, but if we don’t try and get ahead of this, it’s only going to get worse! Give them a call and ask them to have the rules that are in place enforced…843-609-7902 or 843-614-9812…

Copy up some standard notices stating the law/rules with a side note stating car license # with a photo for proof has been turned over to police, leave under wiper, and then report it as stated… doubt it will stop them but worth a try!!!

I’ve dealt with parking issues here in Greenville. I actually had a conversation with the police chief in mauldin about it. In this case it was about handicapped and no parking zones. Here’s what I was told.

The parking area… Has to be clearly marked with signs and on the ground. Along with the fine or punishment. It has to be clearly visible during nighttime and bad weather.
What I gathered from two different conversations was, not gonna do anything about it. I have actually gotten a parking ticket at a boat ramp. Because my trailer was too long for the spots. Long time ago. That was from a DNR officer though.

My guess is that many are kayak and paddle board folks using the ramp and they figure a boat is a boat, even if you can carry it under your arm. We didn’t have these kinds of “boats” when ramps were built.

I’m afraid we’re just going to have to live with it, whether I like it or not.

A kayake or canoe-er should have right to a parking spot at a boat ramp just like a boat. You need a life jacket and a whistle and lights at night just like a john boat. They honestly get treated bad enough as it is on the water cut them some slack.

LOL

There’s plenty of car parking at my ramp, yet the yakkers park in the trailer spot anyway

I don’t think it technically a boat parking space. I think it’s a boat trailer and tow vehicle parking spot. If a kayaker has a trailer then no problem.

It would be pretty easy to make a stencil and mark the trailer spots as such. Plant the seed with somebody at Charleston County Parks.

I’ve called the 2 managers supposedly over the boat ramps numerous times starting last year and they told me that nobody but me is complaining about it… That is why I posted their numbers, so that maybe, if they hear from other people, something might get done… I figured it was worth a try…

I completely disagree. Yall can pull into a slot made to fit a Prius while we have a 30’ 40’ truck and trailer set-up. The small ramp I use you have to pay a “launching” fee annually or Guest pass. But that does not garuntee you a “parking spot”. When people park for their yaks they get tickets, if you take up two spots you get a ticket, and if you try to dispute it you pay full price all part of the agreement you signed when you applied. Plenty of street parking for yall. The “overflow” lot is a 3/4 mile walk. So that being said trailer spots are for those with a trailer.

And you’re what’s wrong with society today…

I’m hoping 40inchreds is just trying to stir the pot intentionally and doesn’t really believe that

Probably also believes in participation trophies.

God bless the “ignore” function.

You two should knock it off. If it’s anything I hat is piling on.

Yeah. Me too.

I say swamp every kayaker and paddle boarder you come across.

I noticed two of you pilling on have really small boats. 16’ Jon and a flat back canoe. I’m sure you have never complained about another boats wake possibly swamping you. It would be fun to see someone towing a yak at speed. Instead of a tube. Yaks still aren’t as bad as jet skis.
The worse paddlers are the Clemson row team. I’m not sure how much $$$ they give the army Corp but they own the lake on hartwell. No wake or the DNR will chase you down. If they aren’t there the Clemson coaches will call your registration in and you will get a ticket.
