A kayake or canoe-er should have right to a parking spot at a boat ramp just like a boat. You need a life jacket and a whistle and lights at night just like a john boat. They honestly get treated bad enough as it is on the water cut them some slack.
You entirely missed the point. Notice these aren’t called boat parking spots. They are called trailer parking spots. Don’t have a trailer, don’t park there. It’s that simple. If you have a trailer for your canoes, sure, go ahead and park there.
All my friends that go with me on my boat have to have a lifejacket and whistle and whatnot just like everyone else, but they don’t get to park in a trailer spot just because they are on a boat. They don’t have a trailer, so they don’t park in a trailer spot.
Man, some people just insist on being part of the problem.
ReelDawg, the canoe stays in the rivers, where it belongs.
and i never said Canoers and/or kaykers shouldnt park there, but if they dont have a TRAILER they shouldnt park there. At one of the parks i use, they have a canoe/kayak launch, and it has longggg parking spots. it does not have any “markings” on the pavement stating trailer parking. its common sense. but if you lack that, the park rangers are quick to come let you know.

“I noticed two of you pilling (piling?) on have really small boats. 16’ Jon”
-I owned a CC for many years. Really got tired of pbs and kys clogging up creeks.
-large wakes in my 16’er do not bother me at all-she handles them just fine.

The times are changing. You have major metropolitan cities painting cross walks in rainbow colors to make people feel special…you really think they are going to care if a gasp boater is inconvenienced by a Prius in a trailer parking space? I don’t see it happening.

Like I said before- I believe those spots are for tow vehicles with a trailer used to pull a boat. It’s not a boat parking spot or a kayak parking spot.
My .02 worth. I personally think by law, regular cars have the right to park in boat trailer spots. But common courtesy would be to park in a regular car spot. Most all landings have them.

Thanks for posting the link because I was not aware of the law. It does clearly state do not park cars in boat & trailer spots on weekend & holidays. Not 24/7. Bottom line is, don’t be an a$$ and park a car or truck without a trailer in a trailer spots if you have other options.
When I said something to the “security” guys at the Lake Murray Dam ramp, about cars parking in the long spaces designated for tow vehicles with trailers, he told me it was private property owned by SCE&G, and nothing can be done about it. No one can be ticketed or given any kind of warning.

It Shall be unlawful to:
“Utilize the parking spaces dedicated for vehicles with boat trailers for parking vehicles on weekends or holidays.”
So…why only on weekends and holidays? I get it that those days are going to be considerably busy but to me, it leaves room for issues. Granted, as some have said, there should be a measure of common courtesy/commonsense but we all know those are foreign concepts in today’s “me first” society. Granted, seeing this posted regulation, I would think the local PD would be pretty busy fielding calls from people reporting the “non-boat trailer crew” that chooses to park in designated boat trailer parking. Start writing tickets and collecting fines and maybe this issue will become less of one.
Bob, Having met some of those people you speak of, I wouldn’t put too much faith in their understanding or laws and rules and regulations. That said, the provided link pertains to the Charleston Code of Ordinances, not Lake Murray.

I see LEO there all the time, I will stop and talk to one the next time i see them and inquiry on that. I’d be curious what they say. that place is terrible about that too. especially the few spots near that shelter with the grill, seems those spots are alway taken up by cars. Also cars going the wrong direction around that spot too, i dont budge, i stay right in the middle.

Like happy bob said. They can’t do anything. I’ve been down this road twice. From what I was told that link has zero value. Simply because it doesn’t state a penalty. It has to cover all the bases. Viewable at night and in bad weather- signs in front of every spot and stencil. Plus it has to state the penalty and fine.
I say swamp every kayaker and paddle boarder you come across.
That just makes you an a-hole. Intentionally swamp me and you’ll get a visit from DNR guaranteed.
Boat drinks, Waitress I need 2 more boat drinks!
Roger that it was a joke dude by the way. I would never intentionally swamp a kayaker but a paddlebparder in the channel is takin their lives in their own hands go ahead and send the man my way I will gladly talk to him. Also I run a 15 foot war eagle so if I swamp you in that you need to just stay on dry land.

I get it. I’m just sick of that mentality from power boaters. I’ve had morons turn toward me and drop off plane to see how large a wake they could throw my way. I’ve had drunk a-holes run by a top speed and throw bottles and cans while I was drift fishing a bank. Their registration numbers showed up nicely in the gopro video that I e-mailed to Mr Greenjeans.
Paddleboarders tend to be clueless for the most part. I do my best to be kind to the mentally deficient hordes.
