Illegally parked vehicles

Yaks and paddle boarders should stay on ponds, Non-navigable creeks, Out of the channel and not use Trailer parking spots at saltwater access ramps. I understand more than most as to I “we” are responsible for our wakes enforced the law for many years, But Yall need to get your Heads out of your @ss’s and relize the rules of the road as well and a marked channel is for navigating a BOAT.

I have no problem with PB and yaks being on the water with me but I do agree they have no business running the channels. It’s not like they have to worry about their draft. I also agree with the trailer parking issue; they have no business parking in boat trailer spots. I have no problem with them using boat ramps to “launch” from but they don’t need to use the ramp/dock as a spot to hangout. “Launch” your craft and get out of the way, just like every boater that uses the ramp should do. If I’m meeting someone at the ramp, and I know the ramp/docks are going to be busy, I’ll tell whoever I’m meeting to meet me somewhere else and we’ll drive to the ramp in my vehicle. If that’s not feasible, and I get to the ramp and launch the boat before they get there, I’ll idle just outside the dock area until they get there and then work my way to the dock to pick them up. That’s not something time on the water teaches you. It’s simply commonsense and common courtesy. You don’t need to be a “old salt” to understand commonsense and common courtesy at a boat ramp.

God bless the “ignore” function.

I agree that yaks and paddleboards need to follow the rules of the road, but we don’t just belong in non navigable waterways.
trailer spots are for trailers
ramps are for launching
the parking lot is for stowing your chit and tie down

If you know me, then you’ll know me or my clients were never part of the problem. You’ll also no I’ve got a low tolerance for bs from jerks in boats. No arguing on the water, just date and time stamped video evidence to the Leos.

If you are constantly having problems from boaters just take a second and analyze what the common denominator is for every encounter…You and “your Clients” not every boater. I do not slow down for yaks in the creek for one simple reason by the time I see them slowing down throws 3x the wake then when I am on plane. So what would you prefer a wake or a large plowing wake from me slowing down? Trust me I get P!ssed off and show obscene hand gestures when I am anchored outside the channel and a Snowbird drives by and throws a 6+" wake while I am fishing with my daughter. Not to mention all the boats that are docked near by getting damaged. They should be running offshore with that sized boat but they are clueless so they run the ICW. But I like fishing that hole and I just have to deal with it cause the fish hav not seemed to care and still bite.

It was never a constant problem, not “every boater”, just the occasional a-hole. I had 3 instances that warranted reporting to DNR in more than 5 years of 150 days per year of kayak fishing.

  1. large sportfisher running the no wake zone behind Sullivans at about 20 knots with a 6 foot wake
  2. Drunks throwing bottles mentioned earlier
  3. dipchit running at me when I was 50 yards outside the channel mentioned earlier

My preference has always been for a boat to run by on plane even in the smallest creeks.

I’ve been fishing and boating around here since I was a little boy. Used to fish every Single weekend no matter what but in the past few years I don’t even put my boat in the water on a summer weekend. It’s getting bad out there so I just fish during the week after work. No way in hell I’d drop a kayak in on a weekend around here.

Some areas are better than other for yak fishing. Plenty of spots where boats fear to go or only pass by on the highest tides. All but one requires paddling naviagable waters to reach.

Anymore I spend my days in the garage building cars and leave the waters to the googans.

One thing not reflected in this thread is I’m certain there are people on both sides (boaters and PB/yaks) of this debate that are more than willing to compromise and make concessions but just like in politics and everyday life, it’s those on the extreme ends of either side that are the loudest. Not every PB/yak is a “no good such and such” and not every boater is “right” or a “saint on the water” but as long as the “extreme ends” are the loudest, there will be no headway towards resolving this issue. It’s obvious that some feel if you don’t do what they do, the way they do it, then you’re just flat wrong and a part of the problem. In actuality, those with that attitude are the problem and having that attitude will only perpetuate the problem. Fact is, not any one group has any more of a right or ownership of the water and the landings than the other.

God bless the “ignore” function.

If people used common sense and did not feel like they are entitled this would not be a problem. But alas, we have a world full of people who really do not care about being courteous to anyone.

I have to agree with Tommy on this one. As a kayak fisherman that does not use “trailer parking spaces”, That hugs the grass line when possible, when going way around boats fishing 100 yrds if possible, can launch on a ramp very quickly by wheeling my yak down and back up on a cart.

Now having said all that, I have come to realize there are offenders on both sides and by having a motor on the back of your boat does not mean you know how to use it and it certainly does not remove the a$$hat label if you do not have courtesy on the water which is declining rapidly.

I usually don’t post on here much anymore do to the change in the environment of whiners taking over. But I do believe there are several on this site that ought to hang a mirror in front of their keyboard.

Glad to hear you say this. I often go by on plane since that’s the least wake I can throw (unless I go by at actual idle, which takes at least a few minutes). I feel like many less-experienced kayakers or people just unfamiliar to boating will think I’m being a jerk when I run past them, though.

Obviously if the creek is narrow enough for it to be dangerous, I idle by. Props are dangerous things and don’t know the difference between water and people as far as I can tell.

edit – back to the original topic: Yes, cars parked in trailer spots are pretty obnoxious. I always wonder if it’s ignorance or arrogance that causes people to park there.
